Syria is currently going through a Civil War. 150 years ago the US was in the midst of our own Civil War.
IF - the US Civil War was being fought today - What would it look like and sound like, in the world of cell phones, computers, the net, weapons that can spread death far and wide in a heart beat? Considering the slaughter that happened 150 years ago - what would the slaughter be today? -------------------- Never too old to have a happy childhood!  .......... ..........Don't put an age limit on your dreams! |

if cell phones were involved there would be no casulties as both side would be yaking on their phones and not paying attention to what they should be doing!

Since The War Between The States ushered in the age of "modern warfare" and featured techniques and tactics that were still in use up till Vietnam War...this "supposed" Civil War will make that one look like a minor skirmish!! Certainly the tactics used during the Civil War would be useless. Those tactics though is what makes for interesting reading today, about the American Civil War, at least to me.
If they fought today, it would be a boring war. We would probably simply nuke ourselves to death and then the Taliban would take over.

It would not be any fun, that's for sure. Let's face it (and I know this is a very unpopular viewpoint to have) - America is a pretty violent culture these days. Gun-obsessed, violence-obsessed, wasteful, reckless, careless, immature, ego-driven, imperialistic, materialistic, technology-based.....it's the sad truth. Fortunately, cultures do change over time. Of course, this isn't to say that America is bad or that all Americans are violent (which would be pretty dumb for me to say) or anything that extreme. A couple of useful quotes:
