I guess I'll start my first "storm" related thread for some snow that is being forecasted by EC and TWN especially. TWN have 5-10 cm for Ottawa and Montreal on thursday, the 3rd, and the snow may linger a little bit to the 4th. Toronto currently only have flurries and a cm or so as per TWN/ EC has straight "snow" for Ottawa on the 3rd and periods of snow for Montreal on the same date.
We'll see how this unfolds over the next couple oof days. Would be nice to add this to Ottawa's (and Montreal's) impressive snow cover. And happy new year to everyone! Here's hoping 2013 brings us all lot's of snow! This post has been edited by ottawasnowstorm: Jan 1 2013, 09:36 AM |

Looks like a clipper system with some lake-enhancement thrown in for good measure.

TWN have us for 5-10 from flurries tomorrow, that's some pretty good "flurries", don't think we will see very much, though take anything at the moment as it's green out, a couple of cm's maybe 5cm will be nice and least isgoing to freeze for the forseeable.

Yep, Georgian Bay and cottage country should get a good 10-20 cm out of this one. Even as far south as Newmarket should get a good 5cm at least I'd have thought. Just shovelled my drive after the last couple of days of "flurries" so going to keep the shovel handy, may even be worth getting the blower into action for the fourth time this season.

Number of downloads: 9Clippers tend to not give our area much snow, I wouldn't expect 10 cm, perhaps 5cm. Temps will be cold so could be good snow ratios... |

I always find clippers are in the 5-15 cm range in Ottawa, though I could be wrong on that. But if we can manage 10 cm or so out of it, combined with the cold temperatures that will be in place, this snow will really accumulate and will look really nice. Driving on the other hand may not be too good as any salting the city will be doing will not be very effective, at least not for long and may in fact make roads worse.

The 12z Euro offered up a parade of light snow from clipper activity over the next 7 days or so before a system moves in from the southwest by day 10 which has a warm look to it FWIW.

Based on the latest CMC and GFS it looks to be 5cms or under for Ottawa, which TWN has also now changed their forecast to 5 cms.

This has definitely wimped out. Be lucky to get 5cm from the system. Barrie but mostly north into cottage country should get a fair amount of LES as strong WNW for about 24 hours.

We've had flurries here all day here. Very light fluffy snow since early this morning. It's only accumulated to about 2-3cm but it's very pretty looking.

It's been snowing lightly all night at the airport, caught some by surprise, they've been busy clearing the aprons all morning.
That thermal low has been playing a part in this extra snow for a good time now. Nice surprise, too bad it's not affecting the Hamilton/Burlington area. BTW - when did we start referring Southern Ontario and Southern Quebec as "Eastern Canada" When I see Eastern, I think Atlantic Provinces? I don't remember us labeling storms around the great lakes as Eastern Canada during previous seasons....? Just inquiring. Looks like this system will only give 2-5cm for central Ontario now as it weakens as it heads East. There should be LES for cottage country tomorrow with westerlies, then as the wind veers round to NW Friday evening there could be several hours of LES for Barrie round to Meaford, with maybe 5-10cm, or more locally if a streamer stabilizes. Light flurries could extend as far south as the 401 with a couple of centimetres possible for places like Newmarket.
This should top off a reasonable week up here, with total accumulations Sunday to Saturday of >20 cms if the LES performs. Shame it's all going to turn to miserable slush next week! |

I think we should see a few more as the day progresses and this low lumbers across the North of our region. Anywhere could get 5-10 cms, especially East of GB but the majority will get just a couple I suspect. Tomorrow night should be most productive for the area between the 401 and GB with a decent spell of LES.
