QUOTE(jdrenken @ Aug 29 2012, 09:16 PM) *
We go thru the same thing in my county on a different level.

When I made the decision on the Good Friday tornado to head South and intercept the storm, which was roughly 30min, I didn't get 5 minutes away and the sirens were going off. Me being aware og what was going on called my wife immediately to let her know everything was fine and the storm would pass well south of Columbia. The county has not upgraded their siren policy to reflect the polygon warning style of NWS. My wife said the neighborhood was going nuts with parents getting their kids in houses.

What will happen when the first actual tornado goes thru and ppl remember that day...I cringe to think.

It is the local media's job to portray the severity of the situation...as voiced by NHC. If they acted like it was no big deal...it's on them. Anyone with a NOAA radio would heard the warning/severity from the NHC. Allison has shown us you can't judge a storm by it's category.

I absoultly agree with that, Allison took our whole city by surprise!

And almost all the of the time, there have been two RECON planes flying simultaneously, a NOAA and a Air Force plane.

Pretty nice to see.

Those guy have been leaving from here (Ellington Field) after bringing their planes from Mississippi last night.

18z NAM at hour 84, the system, takes a western turn right before hitting LA, and glides across the coast strengthening to 996 mlbs

If this is true, we need some rain in the Houston area, well almost all of Texas!

Wow - our first hurricane and it looks like she could land right on our doorstep. Starting to make evacuation plans, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
Please be safe and leave early, I saw the evac nightmare of Ike.

Absoulutely...as even tho we are "Dry" and hot here in the Mid-Atlantic, we are in no comparison as to what the Texas area has been dealing with!

Yep, a $160 water bill just to keep my grass green and my two main lakes are really low. Lake Houston is 6 feet low and Lake Conroe is 3.5 feet low. mad.gif

This is definitely something that we will need to keep an eye one here in southeast Texas.

Kelvin Waves?
Last night on The Weather Channel they had some guy say that Hermine and Earl were spawned because of a Kelvin? wave. this is a new term on me, can anyone give me some insight? The didn't let the guy talk for more then 10 or 15 seconds and nothing was really explained.

I saw that too, but that guy on the phone gave no explanation to what Kelvin waves are.

The updated NHC track map is the most ominous I've seen yet with this storm. That would prove devastating for coastal regions from North Carolina to eastern Massachusetts, and I'm still not convinced we're not done with the westward corrections.

I agree!

In the past 3 hours...

.35N and .61W movement

However...past 1.5 hours...

.10N and .36W

That's about 3:1 oppose to the 2:1 yesterday. If I were on the EC I would keep a very close eye on this storm! Just like with Ike, we watched and had no idea where it was going to hit until about 24 to 36 hours out.

EC residents please watch this carefully! I went through Ike and it sucked!

70 knots is a respectable storm. Its a good place to hit on the Texas coast. Not much between Brownsville and Corpus except cattle and cactus.

Agreed, this would be the best place of all if we get hit.

Not me, you should have been here for Ike! It's no fun when your whole house (brick) is shaking for 12 hours and seeing the devastation the morning after.

COC is on its way to being exposed again..

Looks like it had a quick jog NW but now it kind of looks like its going SW in the last few frames? Anyone else see that?

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/tatl/loop-rb.html

I think I still see a westerly movement according to the loop. But then again I may be wrong.
