Got some very heavy bursts of snow today in Whitby with the lake band that came off of Ontario. Ended up with about 5cm of fresh snow. I think Toronto was just too far west to get much from it.

First proper accumulating snow of winter arrives with a bang here this afternoon!

QUOTE
Warnings
5:18 AM NST Saturday 16 December 2017
Winter storm warning in effect for:

St. John's and vicinity
A major winter storm is expected.

Light snow will develop over the Southern Avalon this morning and spread to the Northern Avalon and St. John's metro region by noon. The snow will become heavy at times during this afternoon and persist into the evening hours before tapering off around midnight. Total snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected.

Additionally, there will also be very strong northerly winds. The strongest winds are expected this evening with gusts as high as 120 km/h along parts of the coast. These winds will combine with the fresh snowfall to cause widespread reduced visibilities in blowing snow late this afternoon and tonight.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

I think you might have blizzard warnings at some point. A foot of snow and 120 kph wind gusts, thatís a recipe for blizzard conditions for sure.

We got some snow here as well but closer to 1cm. Definitely missed out on the good action.

You might be late to the party this year, but I'm sure you will make up for it in May 😁

We may hit blizzard criteria though the strongest winds seem to be when the snow is winding down, blowing snow will be a problem for sure....defintel leaving all clean up till tomorrow, settle down with a few beers and watch the snow....incoming radar is stacked!

For sure! 30+cn storms are actually rare here in December, so would be a nice mark to hit, the Rgem has been saying 35-40cms on the 12z and 06z earlier so a reasonable chance.

The radar looks good for you with some good defo bands. I think 40cm is definitely not out of the question.
