When will we ever get snow in Baltimore, Maryland?????????? Hey there , I,m in columbia and yes we have a couple of chances to get snow, whether we do or not remains to be seen. The storms are very iffy now. I,m of the thinking that the next 2 weeks after this friday are about what winter will do. If not by feb 1 st then I think I,m throwing in the towell. -nao due around the middle of feb, but by then temps are expected to average 45-50 and that is too warm. It still might happen then but odds dont't favor a storm. Then its cold and rainy spring. I worked for a while down in pasadena, off mt road, I believe. Nice place to live down off rt 100. Your further south than I am. You might want to get coolwx site and see gfs output for precip. You'll have a better handle on what may come. |

well im fr4om baltimore co, and we actually got 5 inches in december, so i think we will be fine, 24th-25th looks promising, and a colder storm. Maybe the 25th but that is 10 days out. Plenty of cold air next week but no storms at the moment. Thursday/Friday will be mostly a very cold rain. I am up in northern Frederick county and we haven't had much luck either with snow other than the early Dec storm. |

gentlemen based on the 18z gfs there are chances in this 384 hr run, but timing is an issue that wont go away. A lot of coastal storms that seem to keep us cold but high is never in the right place. nao suppposed to go negative by end of week or at least go down to neutral. A lot of play in the storms as we all know is with the gfs. After this weekend anything can happen We'll just have to wait and see.

I think we do have a chance on this next storm but I cant see anything after that until very late next week.. Remember our hot time for snow is form now until early march. Remember the big one in 03 and 06 was in late february. Don't get your hopes down yet. Every year I have been here we have had an at least a 10" snow event. Whether that total will be more than the entire of the rest of the season that remains to be seen.
I live in Severna Park just down 648 from Pasadena. Our total for this year is 2.5" + a trace that we got today.. I was happy that it snowed today. -------------------- ![]() - Rainfall Total Since 12/1/09= 3.37" - Ice Total Since 12/1/09 =0.1" - Snowfall Total Since 12/1/09 =22.1" -CoCoRaHS Observer |

Just big white fluffy flakes drifting down. I too was happy. . . but I want the excitement of a SNOW STORM!!! Hopes for the 24th |

I really think that we might see some flurries with a mix by today or tomorrow nothing more than maybe a 1/2 inch if we are lucky as for the 24 th I think we will only see a couple of inches if lucky somewhere between 1 to 3 nothing more for the rest of the month. just my thoughts.

gentlemen, good news and good news .First lookat coolwx and you will see tha Bwi gets more snow than rain for the thursday/friday event and second, the euro and ggem is showing a second event on saturday , with all snow for almost the entire state, maybe 1-3/2-4 in of snow. Hpc in their discussion are discounting the gfs with its out to sea solution in favor of the euro. It will definitely be cold enough, no question. So were latching onto some early time period solutions for snow. I would go to psu e-wall and follow the ec for snow chances out to 10 days. Also the ggem, which forst came up with this solution. The JMA also came up with the saturday snow scenario earlier too. Earl Barker has a web page loaded with interesting models. Keep checking these over the next two or three days for saturday event. The other big storm on the 228hr has disappeared on the 06z run gfs. May come back I dont know. But as it stands now there are a couple of minor events to look forward to. Watch the gfs in the next 36hrs for a soluton that mirrors the ec. Fun time ahead.

When will we ever get snow in Baltimore, Maryland?????????? Its tough being a snow lover from Baltimore. I've been here 50 years and seen many warm winters and a few deep snow years. The reason we are so obsessed with snow here is because the conditions have to be absolutely perfect. It drives us absulutely nuts! 1-The storm systems coming from the west loose moisture in the "mountains" due to uplifting. 2-The lows born in the gulf where we get our big snows from, must move n along the atlantic coast at a distance that will give us NE to N winds on the west side of the storm center. The storm center must pass east or se of Baltimore. 3. Occasionally cyclogenesis gives us new storms that form off of NC coast, then move north along the coast. These can't form too far north or by the time it gets to Maryland the pressure is not low enough. It has to have time to deepen. 4-The N jet has to dip just far enough south through VA MD or northern NC. Too far south and the gulf storms get pushed out to sea (the jan 20th storm). Too far north and we are in the warm air. I'de like to see Canadian high sitting to our west, the N jet diggin down - curving through VA and a gulf low - or new low form and run N along the coast. Until that happens ...fagetabouit And after what has happened- don't get too excited about 10 day models -- are you kidding me? |
