I may get ran out of the county on a rail for posting this but the more I've
thought about this throughout the day, thr angrier I've gotten. NASCAR is big business where I live and the Charlotte Motor Speedway doesn't sit far from where I work. People from all over the country travel to this area several times a year not only for the big races, one of the biggest coming this weekend, but for other events that keep the local indistries and much of the local population humming along and profitting from all the out of town business. The local towns and counties have catered to the track owners and NASCAR officials to ensure their eyes don't start wandering off to other states. The racers themselves usually try to keep their reputations and thus the sport of racing clean and free of hints of scandal but are not always completely successful. Last night one of the big names on the racing circuit, Kyle Buch, was stopped for speeding on a highway between Charlotte and Mooresville, NC. He was clocked at 128 MPH on a road that probably has a speed limit of 55 or possibly 60. The officer that stopped him later said that the driver was 'cooperative' but he also told the officer that he regarded the vehicle he was driving as a 'toy.' The vehicle was a very rare sports car that if I remember correctly was a Lamborghini of which only 500 had been distributed in the US and was capable of achieving speeds of over 200 mph. The officer issued Kyle a citation for speeding and then allowed him to drive home. Many of the local citizens believe that he was shown extreme favoritism because or his occupation and that he should have been arrested on the spot and his car impounded. They say that is what would have occured to them if they had tried the same stunt. Local police have declined to be interviewed, saying it's a matter for the Sheriff's Office. A local newsman went to the Sheriff's Office and was turned away at the door. He was allowed to speak to an official from the parking lot on his cell phone. The official said he believed that Kyle had been treated failry and that the officer had acted as he should have under the circumstances which included Mr. Bush's stopping immediatley upon seeing the blue light and his cooperation afterwards. He was also allowed to keep his driver's license. I believe that such extreme reckless driving shouldn't be rewarded with a pat on the hand and advice to take it on home. I agree with the neighbors of the area where it occurred and other local citizens in believing that favoritism for the home sport was in use and shouldn't be tolerated. But I'm interested in what others think. Over-reaction on my part or should Mr. Bush been taken to jail for the lives he could have ended that night because of his reckless and thoughtless behaviour? I'll post pictures of the driver and the vehicle when I get home.. -------------------- The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. I suspect Kyle Bush will be funding the local county government for a month or two with the fines he will be paying.

The rich, powerful and popular have and always will get preferential treatment; this is nothing new.

Have ya heard anymore about rumblings he may be parked for remainder of season? Coach Gibbs may have to consider letting him go if sponsor pressure is brought to bear. NASCAR's announced punishment is $50K fine and probation for the balance of 2011. I don't think that is enough to get his attention, myself. Also, when you loose your credentials and are parked for the weekend you are not allowed anywhere in the garage or pits. Yet during the race Sunday, there he was on top of the pit box for the #18 car. |
