I can't speak for anyone else but I can say that the snow events here over the holiday period overperformed compared to my expectations.

Very true. We got 25cm from various little clippers in a week that was supposed to be bone dry. It seems like a similar pattern of clippers is setting up for the next week or so, so I'm confident we won't have to stare at sullied snow for too long.

Speaking of snow, I've still got a solid 40cm at my house and I don't expect that they'll be enough rain to bring out the grass, so I count myself lucky. Plus, the melted snow and rain is going to make for great skating next week on the Ottawa River!

Snow is all gone here. We had a solid 20-25cm base (although the wind spread it all around so that many fields were already almost snowless) and it's 100% grass now. Looks like April out there.

Really? I know you got good snow but you didn't really get more than was forecasted, did you? What I was referring to is how it would be nice if a snow even was forecasted to bring 20cm and brought 30 or 40cm! That would be a nice change! biggrin.gif

Its all gone here, too. Poor guy around the corner from me that has a nice rink set up basically has a pool now with a hockey net floating in it. sad.gif Made me think of Hockeynut. Bet he is frustrated right about now.

Looks like the worst of this has passed Ottawa by. Not nearly the rain or temperatures that were predicted by EC for today. Highest I saw was 6.8 C outside and dropping steadily now down to 4.9 C outside over the last 2 hours. A little rain this morning but not that much.

I heard on the radio this morning that this warm spell has set back the opening of the Rideau Canal until the end of the month if the cold comes back. They said they were close to being able to open before the above 0 temperatures arrived this week.

Dense fog out there now but the snow continues to hang on valiantly. I wish the warmup had melted the ice that covers the yard but at least it took the weight off of the roof and allowed me to clear out the eavestroughs which were suffering terribly as well.

QUOTE
A January thaw began on Friday as an unseasonably mild airmass
originiating from the Gulf of Mexico pushed north into Southern
Ontario. A few maximum temperature records were set on Friday with
many more set on Saturday as daytime highs soared into the double
digits in many locales.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system currently tracking north of the
Lower Great Lakes has given rainfall amounts of 20 to 50 mm
Over portions of Southern Ontario. Most of rain fell from
Saturday night to Sunday morning. Some of these regions have broken
their records for highest rainfall on January 13.

Wow still 40 cm in Aylmer, you guys faired well, as did the east end area of Ottawa Im sure since the temps didn't warm up as much there today as expected.

We currently have 27cm after a measurement not long agao, down from 33cms today, so 6 cms gone and in total 55 cms lost from this warm spell.

Yes I was saying an overperformer because that is what we have been receiving lately, including snow storms.

Dec.21st storm was supposed to be 25 cm - 30cm with mixing, we got no mixing and 42 cms.

Dec.27 storm was supposed to 15cms, we got over 25cms

and Jan.6 storm was supposed to 5cm we got 13cms. Plus a couple other little clipper we recieved over the holidays (thats how we got 82cms in a couple weeks tongue.gif ). So for some reason they have been overperforming here lately, but I wont complain if they come back like that wink.gif

final measurement this morning for the snow left on the ground..24c ms, so not bad from such a mild moist pattern last week. In total we lost 58 cms

Here is the recent snowcover map, the eastern section of the US and S. Ont sure took a beating..

After the last few days we had, this morning's temp of -1C felt frigid in comparison, even though it's around seasonal.

It's funny how the body and perception adjusts quickly. I was putting the garbage out earlier this morning in a t shirt, was +1 and sunny though ice had formed everywhere overnight, no wind though, I wasn't cold at all just felt alot warmer than a few days ago...also lack of wind is rare here so you really notice it when it's calm as the wind makes a big difference.

Still a good base of snow (i'd say about 40-60cm still on the ground), but we've lost a lot over the weekend (about 30cm). That's for the Montreal area - north shore .

However on the south shore of the St-Lawrence (QC sw), they're on the lawn this morning with about no snow left with maybe some patchs here and there. There's even a flooding risk from a river on the south shore.

Now .... we'll pay for the nice weather with about a week of cold, then a super cold period next week.

That's winter in Canada - a beer on a terasse one day, and a frozen coffee the next day.
