QUOTE(hckyplayer8 @ May 4 2012, 08:46 AM) *
Thoroughly depressing morning.

Struck up a hot bird at 6. A whole hour this bird was going non stop, drifting back and forth at 150-175 yards to my calls every 15 mins or so. At 7 he went silent. I waited about 20 mins and starting some soft yelping and he gobbled again and I could tell he was on the move down the ridge away from me.

I let him go another 15 mins and started a series of cutting and he thundered now to my left, inside 100 yards. I went silent and he started going crazy. 75 yds, 50 yrds and at 35ish yds he popped out onto the trail.

Lined him up and let the 20 guage scream. Bird did a barrel roll and I did a fist pump. Then to my shock and dis-spare the bird got up, took 3-4 strides and took off.

WTF

So now I sit here, looking at 12 guage ultra mags because if that happens again, the 20 guage would be wrapped around a tree.

hahaha Awesome story! Those are tough birds. You'll definitely be better off with a 3.5 in 12ga shell.

Went upstate to hunt this week. After a four hour ironman match, called in two jakes and harvested the closest one.

They pulled the old go silent and sneak in from behind trick. By the time I realized they were there they had pinned me and I had to blast one as he started to run.

4 3/4 beard 18 lbs

Just traded in my full size .40 SW M+P for a .9mm Sig Sauer P290.

This thing is AWESOME but as I have heard; it is a giant PITA to clean.

I still haven't got the darn thing apart. You practically need 3 hands.

Nice choice hcky! Those Sigs are great. I just recently traded my G19 for a FDE G17 with night sights. I made out great on that deal! They're hard to come by. Just built a new AR as well. BCM 14.5 upper with an Aimpoint PRO optic. It's super nice. Good coyote gun.

It's been a while since I've been in here. Missed you guys!

Does the BCM upper make it a 765?

I think I'm going to take the dip and buy a AR before Obummer gets reelected and bans all the semi autos.

Also what do you hear about the DPMS series? I've always been a SW guy, so I thought about getting their MP15....but the DPMS Panther looks pretty great too.

I've been told to stay away from Bushmaster.

I'm not sure what you mean by 765 but I think you mean an NFA firearm. No it doesn't because the flash hider is pinned and welded bringing the total barrel length to 16in. Stay away from DPMS for the most part. Unless you go with a long range AR from them like a SS barrel. I've had an M&P 15 and a Bushmaster and they are both GREAT products! First I had a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S, sold it and bought a Ruger SR-556E because I wanted a gas system AR. Changed my mind and went back to direct impingement with the S&W but ultimately decided I wanted a shorter barrel and something milspec so I went with BCM.

Bushmaster is actually Windham Weaponry. They still make a quality product though!

My bad. I mean't 7.62. I was wondering if changing to that upper made it a different caliber or not.

Does the XM15 include the forward assist?

Nah same caliber, 5.56.

Oh yeah definitely. I wouldn't buy an inferior AR smile.gif

So I have this friend...he has 200 acres...1/4 farm field...all posted..no one is allowed to hunt there...well except him, his wife......AND ME!! rolleyes.gif
So last week he got a 10point buck dressed out at 223lbs...So now I get to use his stand, I call it the "Tash Mahall" 20 feet up in the middle of the field, last week 1/2 hour before dark, 16 (yes I said SIXTEEN) deer around me at one time, one monster buck WAY down in the corner, too far out but I took a shot anyway with my .243 and missed, I'm going back this afternoon to see of I can end this season, I have to get to work on camp..... laugh.gif

Nice stinkie! That sounds like prime hunting ground. What state are you in that you can hunt deer with rifle?

I'm looking forward to the 26th and 27th. Those are the two days of shotgun season I get to go. Going to sight in my shotgun this weekend. Just bought a new Mossberg 12ga.

I stopped buying doe tags once the PGC proved they couldn't maintain the herd and we started seeing less deer.

Firearms season for PA also starts the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Looking forward to heading upstate.

I am seeing deer in my surburban neighborhood - had a couple in my driveway last year.
