QUOTE Computer geeks everywhere will gather around their television sets next week to cheer on their most impressive representative yet. Ladies and gentlemen, the most anticipated Jeopardy! match of all time is about to air, a three-day blowout in which a non-human contestant could take all. Three pre-recorded shows set to air February 14, 15, and 16 will pit IBM supercomputer Watson against Jeopardy's two all-time biggest champions, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Those who attended the taping have been sworn to secrecy regarding the outcome. ... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2380165,00.asp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP4Jc5rGT1A This could be quite amazing! 'The End Is Near'
Watson's victory would tip the 'virtual' scales in the world of robotics, Issac Asimov was right.....'I Robot' Humans will be taken over as Watson leads all the 'artificial intelligence' devices to control and demolish man. Unless one of the two 'humans' can stop this crisis we are all doomed. I have little faith, ......*runs away* -------------------- Perception is everything

It is finally here...the dawn of machines....and the dusk of mankind......
"Watson" cannot be allowed to defeat the humans Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter This is not a simple game show to see who wins....it is a struggle for supremacy between man and machines. If "Watson" defeats our 'finest' human Jeopardy minds then our fate is sealed. "Watson" will know that he is superior to man, and will begin programming devices all over the world to do his bidding. All eyes will be glued to the TV set to watch the epic struggle of man's last gasp and supremacy. -------------------- Perception is everything

Psh it's all rigged!!! if they really had them against a supercomputer with todays modern processing speeds it would just be some hour long show of the computer buzzing in before alex finished the answer, while ken and this other dude cry.

I really hope a human wins, It is not a good thing if a computer wins. Far from the end of the world but not good. It still can't know anything more than a human can know. We came up with all of the answers. We're the ones who figured out how to build it. Knowledge =/= Intelligence =/= Speed -------------------- Winter 2010-11 Snow: 148.0"

Pretty cool, except for the occasional error.
For example, for one question Jennings said "What are the '20s?"...wrong Watson then says "What are the 1920s"? Alex's response "No, Ken just said that" This post has been edited by kab2791: Feb 15 2011, 08:03 AM -------------------- University of Detroit Mercy Math Minor 2009-2011
