As of 2011, not a single auto maker in the US offered the option of a factory cassette deck. This is bad news for many of the die hards (myself being one of them) who are attached to their cassette libraries of those mixed tapes that were so popular during the 1970's, 1980's, and even well into the 1990's. When my 1994 Pontiac Grand Am was destroyed by hurricane Sandy, I wanted to buy a new car. When I realized I wouldn't be able to get one with a cassette deck, I did the research to weigh my options. Interestingly enough, Lexus appeared to be the most aggressive with tape decks. In fact, they were the only holdout in 2010 that still offered a deck. Although I never pictured myself driving a Lexus, I was able to locate a pre owned certifies 2008 ES 350 Lexus. Only 39,000 miles on it and it had the tape deck I was searching for. It also included a CD player and even a navigation system. I bought the car in November for only $18,000. After 5 months of driving it, I must say it was a great decision. I am very satisfied. The dealership Lexus of Manhattan treats the customer like royalty. A very impressive operation.

Of course you can always get an after market tape deck installed by a radio shop but my question is does anyone out there still have a factory cassette deck in the vehicle they drive?

Last one I had was in a 1978 Chrysler New Yorker, but that was 8-track. I loved that boat but sold it last year along with all 20 tapes.

What year is that car again? Seriously though, analog music sounds amazing. And vinyl records have been making a strong comeback the last 2-3 years. Cassettes made a VERY slight uptick but have the potential to surge further down the road because they are quite compact and rather cheap to produce.

We had one on our old 1993 Nissan Sentra. We sold that car years ago, though.

How about a record player? I've seen pictures of cars that came with a factory record player, but have never known anyone to own one.

I got a cassette deck on my 2013 Yamaha bike. I thought those were gone by now.
And I got a 6 disk cd player in it too.

Ok....been a while for this thread.....I am happy to say that my cassette deck in my 2008 Lexus ES350 is going strong. I just had 4 more mixed tapes added to my collection consisting of mostly 60's, 70's, and 80's music. There is nothing quite like listening to that music with that true vinyl sound which a cassette is the next best thing available to achieving that while on the road.

Anyone else still playing those tapes while cruising the streets?

Oh yea, I still got my mixed tapes that I made back when I was in the army way back in 1986 and 87, I'm playing them now on my bike, people freek out when I show them the tape player.

Yes I do. In my 69 SS/RS Camaro I still have a cassette player.
Some of my cassettes are almost 40 years old.
