At the eve of Iranian new year 1393 (22- 23th March 2014) , By the effect of strong upper level low system pressure which cut form the westerlies wave , we experience extremely wintery weather at the north east of Iran!

Attached Image

During the system activity many cities at the north east of Iran which had less or no rain and snow during the fall 2013 and winter 2014 get excellent precipitation half Rain and more snow!

Attached Image

For Instance my city by the name of Mashhad( OIMM ) received totally 38mm rain fall and 10 cm snow at the official weather station at the east ( established about more than 60 years ago).

Attached Image

But the rate of precipitation is different at other parts of the city and it was over than 38mm!

let see some photo at the time of system activities at my city( mashhad):

If I am going to judge about weather forecasting models refer to this system at my location , It is as follows:

long term forecast
---------------------------------
CFSV2 had the best outlook in the case of long term weather Forecast! rolleyes.gif

Japanese meteorological Agency long term forecast was too weak and I have never believe on it! mad.gif
------------------------------------

Medium and short term Forecast Models:

------------------------

1-The best model which had excllents accuracy is :

NAVGEM - Navy Global Environmental Model (U.S.) rolleyes.gif

2- The second rank is blong to :

GFS - Global Forecast System (U.S.)

3- Next is :

GEM - Global Environmental Multiscale Model (Canada)

And Finally the worst is ECMWF! mad.gif mad.gif

As the ridge extend throughout to the central and western parts of Europe which bring warm and drought, we will experience cooler than normal 2m temp and wet weather by the effects of strong throughs by the next week!

This is the 500 mb anomaly plot for the first wave:

Attached Image

And it is for the second wave:

Attached Image

By this anomalies , I am determined that we will have the good precipitation at many parts of the region and also heavy snow fall at high land!

However during the system activity the crops and Blossoms of fruit trees will have damaged but this situation will ease the winter 2014 drought at many northern parts of Iran which occurred by the climate change and strange drift of jet stream to southern parts!
