System will move across the region in the next couple of days which could bring minor accumulations to some regions.

As infrequent as below average temperatures have been this winter, I figured this upcoming cold spell certainly warranted a thread. 12z GFS weekend high temps below.

Well instead of continuing to clutter the cold thread, may as well start a thread for this system as accumulating snow for some areas has decent model support from some recent runs and why not have one last synoptic winter storm thread smile.gif . It could be the last synoptic snowfall for the season for the area, so for those still in the mood for snow, enjoy!

Well it is that time of the year again, lake effect snow is just around the corner. This year I have asked JD if we could just have a season long lake effect snow thread since there are only a handful of us who are affected and regularly post in the lake effect threads. This should also cut down on clutter and creating threads for minimal amounts of posts. In the thread title I have put "GL/NE" since that is the primary location where lake effect snow occurs, but other areas are more than welcome to post there forecasts/observations when affected. Best of luck to all my fellow 'snowbelt-ers' this season! I'll start the thread with a picture of the five lakes.

A vigorous shortwave rotating around the polar vortex will sweep through the area over the
next couple of days. At the surface it is not all that impressive, but should result in periods
of snow showers over the area. Someone might end up with a couple of inches out of it.
