It is very interesting that the eastern pacific has gotten so active, even before the atlantic, during a lanina year, and already a cat.5 when the atlantic hasnt even had a named storm... huh.gif

It is a Cat. 5.

SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT CELIA HAS RAPIDLY INTENSIFIED DURING
THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS. THE LAST VISIBLE IMAGES SHOW A SYMMETRIC
HURRICANE WITH AN EXPANDING OUTFLOW PATTERN...WELL-DEFINED
EYE...AND STRONG CONVECTION IN THE THE EYEWALL. SUBJECTIVE DVORAK
CLASSIFICATIONS FROM BOTH TAFB AND SAB WERE T7.0...140 KT. THESE
DATA SUPPORT AN INITIAL INTENSITY OF 140 KT...MAKING CELIA A
CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE. CELIA WILL SOON PASS OVER COOLER WATERS
AND INTO A MORE STABLE AIRMASS...WHICH SHOULD CAUSE A WEAKENING OF
THE SYSTEM. IN FACT...MOST OF THE GUIDANCE INDICATE RAPID
WEAKENING COMMENCING BEFORE THIS TIME TOMORROW. LATER ON... GLOBAL
MODELS SUGGEST THE SHEAR WILL INCREASE NEAR THE HURRICANE...WHICH
SHOULD AID THE WEAKENING PROCESS. GUIDANCE IS IN GOOD AGREEMENT ON
THIS SCENARIO...AND THE OFFICIAL FORECAST REFLECTS THIS LIKELIHOOD.

Wow!

Celia is a big mean girl out there.

Surf must be just a bit high right now.

Beautiful hurricane, folks. Awe inspiring.

Actualy it's pretty normal for the EPAC to be active this early before the atlantic

yes, but the waters are much cooler their, and its just odd because their is a dying elnino, and to have a cat.5 in the pacific during a lanina season is something...

Agreed but I would say the record SST's are the culprit here

Uhh... last season. Hurricane Rick. It was the second strongest hurricane ever recorded in the EPAC (behind only Linda of 1997).

But this is amazing... certainly a record-breaker, especially if Celia manages to strengthen some more. It's only the second Cat 5 ever recorded in the EPAC during June (the other was Ava) and Celia has strengthened like this after weakening like crazy and being in a La-Nina season. ohmy.gif

Great and mighty indeed.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get a playable loop movie for how Celia is now to be saved on the hard drive?

This one is worth to be saved.

Now that I did not expect... blink.gif

With Celia being under a favorable environment, I did see potential for it reaching at least 150 mph by today, but a category 5?!

Celia still looks very impressive on the satellite:
