Every year I'm asked if there will be six more weeks of winter. Well, here's a secret, every year there are six more weeks of winter regardless of whether or not I see my shadow.

Happy Groundhog Day.

I enjoy the Winter as much as anyone but my Miata, a daily driver does not. Even a 1/4 of snow on the road for me is dangerous so I just wait for the plow and/or salt.

In any case, concerning Ice on the road. I've always assumed that if I can see ice accumulating on road signs then I should be cautious that the road may contain ice if there is no salt present. And if there is no ice on signs and tree limbs then it's safe to assume there will be no ice on the roadway.

Is this always correct?

As for snow accumulation, the snow always accumulates on the grass and colder surfaces before or at the same time as the roadway. Sometimes a storm starts and snow accumulates on the grass and not the road because the of past salt or the road is warm enough. The question is of a method of predicting if the snow will start to stick on the roadway. It's frustrating as sometimes it will stick when the temp is 35F and not when the temp is say, 29F.

Thanks.

I'm thinking of using balloons as a technique for political activism. Mainly an Americans first anti-globalist theme with specifics.

Some of the ideas include:

Regular sized balloons with a string and a tag with message.

Those very large "Latex" balloons or perhaps a proper weather balloon.....those that one sees at car dealers and grand openings with a large visible message from the ground. Using a stick if you will at the bottom hanging the message, drawing or photo.

One specific idea is to release 1000 balloons across the river from NJ into Manhattan's downtown financial district.

Somewhere between the "X's" getting as close as possible to the Yahoo balloon.

Now for the problems. Where can I buy large latex or weather balloons and the Helium to go with it. Party stores are expensive.

And of course the most problematic, the weather. How do I make an educated guess as to where the balloons will end up. Keeping their height to a lower lever using the larger latex.

I know the weather in the Summer is highly variable but perhaps a formula to make a guess as to where they would end up.

Including wind speed, distance and direction.
