How do Fronts, air masses and High/Low pressure areas interact? I always thought that fronts occur at the boundaries between Highs and lows, but reading carefully I see it is at air mass boundaries with different temperatures. Why aren't these air mass boundaries clearly marked as highs and lows are.? Can high/low pressure areas be contained in or cross over air masses? This all seems confusing to me and I can't find explanations anywhere.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi! I'm new to this forum. My question is about Wundermap from Weather underground.
If you click on "Storm Tracks from the selections to the right of the map, little circles and diamonds appear in the middle of the areas of precipitation. If you left=click on a dot or diamond a dialog box like the one below opens.

The first line is the location. the second line is what confuses me. There is a code consisting of a letter and a number in the parenthesis and I don't know what the code means. Could someone tell me?
Thanks,
Paul
