http://mobile.philly.com/beta?wss=/philly/...mp;id=364412561 so depressing. sad.gif
I figured we needed a thread to release our anger/thoughts and feelings on this winter and lack of cold/snow/storms/weather etc etc, (even though it's still kinda early in the season and was expected for most of us). This way we keep the individual storm threads semi clean of complaining, but in this thread its highly encouraged.

I voted. smile.gif I keep wishcasting in my head that this year will flip for us, like it flipped for Boston last year... well, not 100" flip.. but maybe get the average 35" in a brief 4-6 weeks period. That would be neat. Let's go snow! Gz. sad.gif

In Louisville last year there was a 75 day period from December to February where there was only 2 inches of snow. All of the snow came in late February and early March and the winter ended up with double the average snow. I am not giving up wink.gif

The later in the season it gets, the less I'm disgusted by snow. I'll be cheering on snow with the rest of you come late February if this snowless streak continues. When you live in the heart of the rust belt like I do though, there's nothing pretty or enchanting about a mid-winter snowstorm combined with a deep cold snap after the first day or so. First of all our infrastructure downright sucks around here, and the cleanup after snowstorms is always very poorly managed. Regular old rock salt is the only thing that's used around here for deicing, and while it's somewhat sufficient when temperatures are above a certain point (I think 17 degrees if I'm not mistaken), more often than not it's too cold at night for it to be effective, and instead just creates more of a mess. In close by Maryland, central PA, etc, they use a variety of deicing materials.....Unlike here in sub-100 IQ land.

Furthermore the air quality in this general region is usually at the bottom of the national list, which means that within a few days that pretty white snow cover turns into an off-white, sometimes even earwax shade of blah. It's just gross and unsightly, and combined with the continual refreezing of roadways due to inept civic management, a snowy mid-winter here just isn't very pleasant. Late winter snowstorms around here however are nice. They're "clean" if that makes sense, because they melt within a week or so, and with the sun angle, mother nature does a much better job at keeping the roads clear than the plow/salt trucks do. Several snowstorms back in March 2013 were the kinds of storms I'm talking about. I like those.
