It appears the warmth is holding back or riding up high above the cold surface temps from the snow on the ground here.
Holding steady at 2c in Ottawa, and only 4c out my way west of Ottawa. EC has also dropped the temps for Ottawa to 8c now, which is a little more managealbe then the 14c forecasted a coupld days ago. |

Showers are passing through. I'm well above the 2c EC has for the city, roughly 9c based off of two digital and two mercury thermometers.

I have 11.8c and EC is finally up to 11c for the city as well, decimating the old record and above their forecast high of 8c from 11 AM.

Funny how they were quick to change it at 11am to 8c and then it made it to their original forecast high anyway 12.5 C where I am in the west end of Ottawa. What's even more surprising is the green grass in my side yard and starting to pop up in the back yard. Amazing how fast the snow melted today, much faster than when we had the week long warm up. |

EC's list of records set today and yesterday - http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/SW..._e.html?prov=on
QUOTE For the second time this month, very mild air from the gulf of
Mexico paid a visit to Southern Ontario bringing another memorable January thaw with it. The warm front marking the leading edge of The very mild air made it as far northeast as areas near the Niagara Escarpment by early Friday morning resulting in a number of new record Max temperatures for Thursday across mainly Southwestern Ontario and Niagara. On Friday morning a strong southerly flow Pushed the front northeast across remaining regions, including The Ottawa Valley. Many more record high temperatures were set, and as this air mass was so mild, many of these records were set in the morning, readings peaked as high as 17 degrees in the st catherines and Niagara Falls area, with even higher temperatures recorded just over the border in Buffalo where it reached 18.9 c. These are temperatures more typical of late April or may. Much of Southern Ontario roughly from Kingston through the Greater Toronto area and Waterloo region to Grand Bend and south have once again become virtually snow-free due to the record setting Springlike high temperatures. Yeah, the snowpack here took a real beatdown this time. Bare patches all over the place OK haha mother nature, the jokes over now, you had your fun, but seriously, +8c at almost 11:00pm, that's enough. And yes our snow took a serious beating today, I can't believe how much we lost in one day, there is maybe 15 cms left in the woods, if that. Thats a loss of over 15 cms in one day... |

Would be nice to for once see some highest snowfall records being broken......all we seem break is high temp records or least snowfall. Bummer. Yeah, I seriously can't remember the last time we broke a daily record for cold temperatures, yet nowadays it seems like we're shattering records for warmth left and right. It was truly bizarre walking to school this morning when it was 13C with strong winds and heavy rain, when a week ago it was -18C, feeling more like -25C with full sunshine. One of the most "roller coaster" months I've ever seen - cold in the beginning, then record warmth, then coldest temperatures in years, and record warmth again in the span of four weeks. We lost all our snow here. It's gone. All that remains is a few snowbanks in the ditches and in heavily forested areas. 90% of the snow is gone. We didn't have much on the ground... about 8-9cm but this warm spell was enough to get rid of it all.

Sounds about right, our turn today for the rain and mild though 6 degrees here now don't think will get much warmer so not quite as bad as some. Doubt we will have much snow left come tomorrow away from the man made piles and our snow pack was said to be 46cm yesterday though some places are all ready green as they didn't seem to get much snow on anyway. I have seen a snowpack of a metre disappear here in 36 hours of heavy rain.. The weekend seems to be throwing us some promise though for snow though seems a bit of model disagreement and next week looks like may get another wet and mild day to throw a spanner in the works again.
