Another cold morning by our standards, but not near as cold with temps mostly in the mid teens and lower 20s. I'm looking forward to the warmup. While I enjoy the cold, my heating bill was a bit higher this month due to the heating needing to be running near constant to keep the house above 67F.
Was at the hospital late last night for a kidney stone and had to walk outside in 17F in nothing more than my gown opened in the back. That'll wake you up. |

Got down to 26 this morning.
I haven't been enjoying this weather... at all. I don't mind the cold too bad but when it's dry and windy with no snow/rain, it gets old. I hope we can get some decent rain in February and March to make up for this. |

It was 28F in Santa Cruz again this morning.....right now at 10:10pm it is 38F.....
They have been saying we should warm up as a summer-like off-shore thermal trough is developing in response to the Easterly push from the Great Basin HP...Santa Ana winds kicked up and we have had only lights breezes today. Tomorrow will be the first day in awhile with highs in the 50's and 60's...with maybe above average daytime temps by the weekend. Meanwhile one more night of extreme temps...and SoCal may have another day of cool weather also. A couple of storms are vainly trying to put a dent in the massive West Coast ridge but they can't even sneak under the ridge with it's strength and orientation. A giant storm affecting Japan and the Kamchatka peninsula may be able to at least dig deep enough to start to budge the High out of the way into next week...but it may be until the end of the month for any substantial precip. is headed our way... This dry, low-humidity cold is not very pleasant...especially for those of us along the Coast....wet weather just seems to feel warmer and it usually keeps a cap on the nighttime temps. from cloud cover. -------------------- Perception is everything

Today was the warmest day in a while here, with high temps generally in the low-to-mid 70s across the area.
Interesting Water Vapor satellite imagery today.
