What a hilariously inaccurate map! They get worse every year- I'm not even gonna bother looking at NESIS maps anymore. BWI/DCA didn't even have a Trace from this system, why are we in the grey area?

How accurate is this for you all up north? Is it wrong for your areas too?

Well I guess that would mean you did get in on the <4 inches

There were many more 30+ inch reports in CT than some tiny dot smaller than Cape Cod

Yeah, I guess theoretically you're right. Miami, FL, also got less than 4 inches too. I mean theoretically everyone should be in the dark grey zone when you think about it. But there's the dark grey and then there's nothing on the map, so the grey must mean something more than zero. Who knows, it makes no sense. But yeah, it should mean 1-4 inches or have some kind of defined lower limit.

I worked in New Haven, CT today and WOW! 1 week later and I saw machines moving snow, people shoveling, huge piles, cars parked in driving lanes & sidewalks covered.

Its totally amazing to see since the 2 feet of snow near me pretty much melted and grass is showing in spots. This is just 20 minutes up the line. When you drive around you get that sinking feeling like, wow what happened here.

Just looking at that list you see how much New York influences the ratings there. It makes sense with the population count. For the snowicane and blizzard of 2005 to be ranked higher than the other three blizzards in 2010 despite those storms dumping over 15 inches each on Baltimore, DC and Philly seems crazy but when you think that NYC's population is bigger than those 3 combined it kind of makes sense. EDIT - Actually upon further review it seems absolutely insane that this one is ranked higher or in the same ballpark as any of the 2010 storms even when factoring in the effects on NYC. They got 10-12 inches in NYC with this storm but its not like the city was shut down or anything. This buried Boston and a lot of suburban areas but the 2010 storms completely shut down the entire Central and Southern Mid-Atlantic.

So did I.. I see a bit of red at the CT coast where New Haven is. Believe it or not Long Island didnt have many 30+" reports (maybe just 2 or 3), only that one local spot in new Haven had the bunch. there was a few around Hartford but I wonder if they considered those drift reports OR its such a small dot on the map that its not notible to scale?

That RSI map is just plain wrong...better map on this link. You could even have dot for 40" in CT

This is that 15 inches in 9 hour band I talked about.

New State Record Established. The 36" that fell in Ansonia, CT in 24hrs beats the old Falls Village record of 30".

The most snow this state ever recorded in 24hrs time came from this February Blizzard.

Absolutely AMAZING!!! I myself being 45 years old(44 when the Feb 13 Blizzard Hit), have never witnessed more snow from a Single Storm than this one. My home town in Central CT had 33 inches on the level, and this storm was the storm that reminded me most of the Blizzard of 78, which in my opinion was the worst Blizzard for my area that I had ever seen!! This Feb Blizzard however, crippled my area just like 78 did, and dropped even more snow than 78 did!! 78 however had winds that lasted longer and were stronger thus making the drifts in 78 much bigger. Both storms are for the ages for my area!! I'd say for me, I'd have to rank 78 and 13 almost even for interior CT....13 had more snowfall, 78 had more wind. Snow depth was deeper with 13, Drifts were bigger with 78. Both Storms cancelled school for a week!!

I will say that I also have never seen Snowfall Rates as INTENSE as they were with Feb 13 Blizzard....at one point for a couple hours we had snowfall rates of 6" per hour, and the local NBC News METS(very good and Reputable guys) came on with a special report saying that areas in Central CT were seeing something Unprecedented with 6" per hour snowfall rates. Now I know what the most intense lake effect snowfall rates look like....it was mind boggling!!!

Also what is of interest, is that both the NWS, and Our Local Mets were all backing off on the REALLY Huge amounts of two Feet Plus for Central CT by Noon time on Friday the 8th-(NWS was calling for 18-24, and local stations were saying 10-15/15-20 at most). They said that the real Huge amounts were going to hit Far Eastern CT, and especially Northeast Mass. I wonder what Model showed them that??? Whatever model showed them that, it ended up being very wrong and it was while the Storm was underway that this info came out. Not only did the really HUGE amounts verify where they said they wouldn't, they verified in many areas 8-12 inches higher than the HIGHEST amounts forecasted; Very Interesting!

Just goes to show, that even when the storm is underway, Surprises ABOUND in a Situations like that. Nobody would have guessed that Central and Southern CT, along with Central LI would have been the jackpot, when the Jackpot was Progged to be in Northeast Massachusetts.
