Was very surprised when I looked out side and saw it snowing moderately with everything coated. Watching every second of it as you this could very well be the last time I see snow this winter.

yeah, I thought it wasn't until the storm was progged to be more off shore, trying to get a handle on how far out the models can identify these interesting features, btw, you must have done ok snow wise, eh? Not bad at all, all things considered! 8" on East Grand Ave., 100 feet from the Atlantic Ocean. We didn't turn over to snow until after 8 this morning, so didn't get the 10-13" parts of E NH and interior York and Cumberland Cos. got. Still 1 more decent bad slowly drifting down toward Portland from up the coast. Hoping will give a last little inch or so for me. Bummed that temps will be at 40F starting tomorrow and for the rest of the week for highs. So lots of melting. But hey, we got it! |

Getting very close to the 12 inch mark with this event. Still snowing good too. Original forecast was 3-6 inches... once again meteorologists are scratching their heads at what is just another forecast gone wrong this winter. Between some big-hyped storms that have done almost nothing and then some showers that turn into big snows, this just hasn't been their year. Snowpack is very high again since most of the snow from the February 9 blizzard was still around, in spite of last week's near-official thaw. It looks like snowpack will easily last well into March (as usual on a typical year), and if Wednesday's storm brings more snow than rain then it looks like we won't be seeing grass anytime soon. You still had "most" of the 2/8-2/9 event on the ground as of this AM? I'd lost practically all of it down here in metro Portland. Almost every day since that storm has been above normal for temps, so lots of melting. |

well this is a nice little surprise, some of the models picked up this backend stuff but like all backend snows i didn't believe it. . not sure if this is even considered backend snow actually, its the upper level low spinning thru everything is white and snowing moderately. im happy I'm not happy at all. Basically NOTHING here, some drizzle yesterday and a few flurries today. Complete and total bust for the Capital District. It's getting VERY hard to look in these OBS threads and knowing you are in the "screw zone" once again in a long stream of "busts". I was confident that the interior NE just HAD to see a decent snowfall sometime this winter. I am beginning to be less and less convinced. A snow covered morning scene here in my yard, not as much snow as in Central New England/Maine, but still nice:

Here is a summary of this storm: Friday was supposed to be partly sunny in advance of the storm, but it was overcast all day. However, the overrunning event produced only a trace of precipitation for us, in the form of five minutes of snow pellets. Saturday, as you know, was a drizzly yawner, with fog rolling in at night. Yesterday saw no sunshine and very little precipitation. Today was supposed to be our one sunny day for the next week. However, when I arose this morning, the clouds from the pathetic storm were--and are--still with us. It is bad enough that this storm was one of the most boring and wimpy of all time--but it also swallowed up four days by providing what it was best at: four days of overcast--and one tenth of an inch of precipitation. And today is our "sunny" day.

another disappointment...barely a dusting to report here in southwest VT. Sounds like Sat. night was all rain here in the valley and we got a coating of snow last night. Hoping for a slight cooling trend on Tues/Wed storm

For MBY the GFS did best (and that is not saying a lot). EURO and NAM kept throwing QPF bombs and decent temps until about 48 hrs before when everything trended SE and warm.
Makes me wanna laugh at all the pro mets who spit out 6-8" for the area 4-5 days before the storm... Hopefully they tone down the hype with this big bust. -------------------- 2012-13: 63.4"

Despite NAM busting for boston, i thought in general it did pretty well on picking up the inverted trough north of you in NH/ME...it also showed me at nearly nothing snow-wise on Friday's mid-day run, which is basically what transpired while GFS was still putting me at 6-12". NAM pushed the snow too far south across eastern NE. -------------------- Winter '12-'13 Winter Storms of Significance (>4")

You still had "most" of the 2/8-2/9 event on the ground as of this AM? I'd lost practically all of it down here in metro Portland. Almost every day since that storm has been above normal for temps, so lots of melting. Well, it was packed down due to the warm temperatures. So although it wasn't nearly as high (the Feb 8 blizzard was a 30:1 ratio, which is very dry) it was still quite "thick" when you consider the density. At least one foot deep still in most areas, except the areas where drifting had exposed some grass. The drifts were still well over my boots. This storm brought me back to around 2 feet, which was definitely more than boot high! I was in Portland just before this storm hit, and yes Portland had much less snow on the ground than I had at home further inland. -------------------- Average snowfall: 81 inches
