Mine was Nov 1st, 1991 here in eastern Iowa, about 4 inches if I remember correctly. I will always remember this storm as it occured at the same time as a big shooting on the U of Iowa campus.
My brother was in Van Allen hall at the same time as the shooting, but several floors up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Iowa_shooting This post has been edited by Sagebrusher: Nov 1 2012, 01:47 PM |

December 25, 2010 Christmas storm dropped about 1-2" last year. Pretty significant given I live in Atlanta metro. Earliest snow I can remember.

Easy one! October 29-30, 2011 with 10.5" of snow. I can't remember any other October snows that were more than a couple inches.

I think it was 2002, the first snowstorm when I was interested in the weather. Enough for a snowman and lots of snow to spare.

I was only 13 at the time, but this definitely sticks out in my mind.
Especially when you go from heavy rain, to extremely heavy snow and lightning. ![]() ![]() ![]() QUOTE Day forecast for March 13, 1993:
*Winter Storm Warning* *High Wind Warning* Today...Windy with snow...heavy at times...changing to rain by noon. Snow accumulating 7 to 10 inches before the changeover. Some blowing and drifting of snow. Thunderstorms possible. Highs in the mid to upper 30s. East winds 30 to 40 mph with higher gusts. Tonight...Windy with periods of rain changing back to snow. An additional 1 to 3 inches possible. Some blowing and drifting of snow. Lows in the lower 20s. Winds shifting to west 35 to 50 mph with higher gusts. The earliest snowstorm I can remember was the surprise nor'easter of 2000. I think it occurred in December. I was only in elementary school at the time and I remember that schools were canceling classes in the night DURING the event.
My most favorite snowstorm is a tie between the Blizzard of '06 or the blizzard from this past January. Probably leaning more towards the one from this past winter just because it was a record-breaker and it started off a month of a 3 foot snowpack. Plus it was the first time I had no school for two consecutive days, except that was trumped by the October snowstorm where I missed 6 days of classes. -------------------- Rob

Hands down, Halloween snow Oct 29-30, 16" here. Although the April 1st, 1997 was quite historical with 18" of snow and blizzard-like conditions after heavy rains.

My earliest significant snowstorm: October 29-30, 2011 While we're on that subject... My last significant snowstorm this "winter" (to date): October 29-30, 2011 In Dc, we were due for a break after 2 years ago and thus we really didn't see much of anything last year. My favorite is pretty much a tie between 93 and 96. We had 36 inches in NEPA for 96 and I remember the snow pile from the plow being as high as the 10' basketball rim on the street. Earliest was a Halloween storm but I forget what year. I just remember being bundled up on Halloween going into my grandparents house. |

OCt 18-19 1989... started late that night and snow all night long... about 9-10 inches by morning... 2 days later 70+ degrees..... biggest snow that year by far...... as a side note the preceding spring May 2 1989... 2 + inches of snow as well! I know it well.. the year I was married! |

I couldn't tell you the year or how much snow we had. What I do remember is my parents making a huge deal out of it and then when I went outside the snow was over my head. I couldn't have been more than six years old so this was in the early eighties. I got to play in that sow for days. It seemed to take forever to melt.
