QUOTE(Aylmer @ Dec 18 2012, 10:45 AM) *
Just went out for a little walk - maybe 2cm of snow so far, but the mixing from this morning has made it an unpleasant kind of slush. At least it looks nice!

Ottawa's currently getting slotted because of a E-N-E wind blowing the snow just west of us. I'd expect Ottawa to get back in the game as soon as the N-W winds get the upper hand, but I don't know when that'll be. Thoughts?

The snow has begun it's return now. It has started again here and the radar shows a lot more to move in. The intensity is starting to really pick up just over the past 10 minutes.

I think we all knew it would snow again, just disappointing to see it stop for the most part for a couple of hours.

And I agree, Aylmer, the "slush" is unpleasant but at the same time and as you also said, it does look nice and I'll add, "white!"

^ Oh wow, where do you live? It's all green grass here and has been the entire winter.

Just north east of Montreal (Lanaudiere Region). It's gonna be a very white Christmas, and with what's in store for Friday/saturday, add another possible 20-30cm.

It's still snowing at the moment, and should until tonight.

Santa will have a nice landing strip ;-)

Precipitation just started up here, but as straight rain. I'd expect it'll change to snow soon enough.
So though this storm hasn't been as snowy as it was hoped, I'm happy that we have some snowcover which seems to be holding up well against the rain. I hope that we also get a taste of all the snow being held to the west of the city this evening.

Wet snow has continued through the afternoon and everything is now coated in white. A good deal is melting on contact, however. Radar looks good for a while yet.

What do you think we got in terms of accumulations out our way? I know it's hard to tell with the melting...it's snow at a good rate in Ottawa mid town currently.

The snowfall rate is very impressive but I wouldn't say we'd have more than 5cm in total. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 10+ has fallen but at least half seems to melt on contact.

It's been a very pleasant surprise today. It's very heavy and wet and beautifully white. Hard to say exactly how much has fallen. I would guess between 5 & 10 cm, but as I said before, it's very heavy and wet.

That much, eh? Whereabouts are you?

Here in Aylmer, I measure 2cm of new snow. A lot of the snow that fell has been compacted by its heaviness and there was nothing but rain between about 10-12am and 1-4pm. I think we could fetch another 2 or 3 centimetres this evening if it cools down enough, bringing the totals on this end to about 5cm, but I'd be very surprised to see more.

So a bit on the low end from my perspective, but I'm really just content to have a blanket of white and another storm to look forward to! smile.gif

So I'm curious as to how much snow EO has recieved - JJ, Bigmt, what does it look like on your ends?

I am in Stittsville. When I woke up at 6:15 it was snowing heavily and at that point I would say we had 2 cm on the ground. Between 7am and 12pm it seemed to fluctuate between rain and snow. After 12pm, it's been steady snow. One thing that I have noticed is how much the ground temperature comes into play. With next to no wind today, you can clearly see the differences in where the ground is frozen.

Disappointing here in Winchester - mostly rain and enough fine flakes to dust the ground. I'm going to have to drain the water out of the basement sump pump hole, which is normally dry at this time of year!

It switched to snow basically at around or just before 6 AM and with maybe a small exception at around 9 AM or so (can't remember) it stayed as snow all day and heavy snow between 6 and 10 AM at times. Hard to tell how much fell exactly, but there is about 6-7 cm on the ground here so I would estimate somewhere between 10-15 cm in equivalent

Wow interesting to see the different snow totals just around the city. Here outside Carleton Place I was just outside shoveling and can you believe it, snow blowing!!! I mostly got it out to get ready for Fridays storm (hopefully I didnt jinks us wink.gif )

Anywho I measured 8 cms of heavy snow, by the looks of the radar, there was some pretty heavy snow falling for most of the day here, but very wet snow...

I estimate 3.5-5 cm out in the east end of Ottawa (Orleans area). You guys out west who may have gotten a bit more, I'mthinking that may have been the heavier snow that fell in the morning as radar showed heavier snow out your way.
