This weather pattern sucks. I don't mind three- or four-day periods of mild temperatures during the winter, but it becomes absurd when it lasts for a week or longer. The high temperature in my area was 73°F on Wednesday, 75°F yesterday, and forecast to be 75°F again today. Aside from tomorrow (61°F), no high temperature in the next 10 days is forecast to be lower than 65°F here. My patience better pay off, and I better get some nice, refreshing cold air late in the month.

The drought seemed to ramp up in September across the South (save the Atlantic coast), and deteriorated rapidly in October. Athens, GA had 0.03" of rain in October, and has had no measurable precipitation since October 15. Parts of northwest Georgia and northern Alabama have been even worse off.

So the high temperature in Athens, GA was 94°F on Friday, and 97°F on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to flirt with 100°F here through Monday, then ease off a bit on Tuesday before the pattern changes and becomes stormier from Wednesday through next weekend.
Anyway, if there are any Southerners around here, post some stuff about the heat for the next few days. ![]()

High temperatures really needn't be near 80°F at Christmastime, but that's what AccuWeather is forecasting for my backyard:
![]() I never expect a white Christmas where I live (though 2010 was awesome), but feeling a chill in the air by sunset really isn't too much to ask, is it? I won't even get that this Christmas, thanks to a warm, moist, disgusting airmass. This sucks. Cancel Christmas already. ![]()

It began raining here in Athens, GA earlier this evening, and we've had on-and-off showers since. Apparently Athens is forecast to receive between 3" and 4" of rain from this storm, and parts of the Carolinas are forecast to receive 12"+. This could be a disastrous event in the Carolinas if that happens, and there will probably be some problems in Georgia and Virginia too. What makes this scenario even worse is the easterly upslope winds getting dammed up by the southern Appalachians. Expect the heaviest rain to occur somewhere in or near the mountains, and expect mudslides too. Also expect the big college football game of the weekend, Georgia/Alabama, to become a mud bath here in Athens. The National Weather Service forecast here says there's a 100% chance of rain, heavy at times, for both Saturday and Saturday night.
