this out of the NWS forecast discussion for far north alabama:

12Z GFS AND 18Z NAM MODELS HAVE HAVE GONE TOWARDS A
COLDER AND SOMEWHAT WETTER SCENARIO FOR SATURDAY NIGHT...AND
FLURRIES STILL LOOK LIKE A GOOD BET ACROSS NORTH ALABAMA. MAY EVEN
SEE MORE THAN JUST FLURRIES

i think they are talking about wrap-around????? I am only guessing, because they are calling for a wet and cold friday, then slight chance of rain saturday, then flurries saturday night.

hey dawgkitten!!!!! I dont think i have EVER considered the GFS the level headed model. I am all about the NAM.....and the GFS has been backtracking slowly and slowly closer to what the NAM has been showing. THis is getting exciting!!!!! rolleyes.gif

Hi Justin!!!!!!!!!! I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the GFS was level headed before....if the NAM verifies I would be smiling for days! Hope you get yours too!

Yeah, level headed. It is bipolar and needs medication...or maybe Kendra does...

Kendra from Fox Carolina said that the 18Z NAM was WAY over the top for snow, but the GFS is the level headed model right now.

I gotta disagree with that, I think the NAM is more level headed than the GFS, even the NWS here has been more in favor with the NAM the past couple of storms.

From Frank Strait on Facebook: it's be bread-and-milk-buying time in the mountains of NC and VA. It could still be a false alarm for the Piedmont, but it's increasingly looking like the mountains will get buried, especially VA and northwestern NC.

The Channel 5 weather out of Raleigh has gone with a swath of snow starting from extreme Northeastern Corner of GA through Charlotte to just north of Elizabeth City and into VA ? Of course this swath of snow extends well into the western parts of NC and the Mountains? They did warn that a change one way or the others in the track of the low would make a big difference in how much, if any snow you receive?

I think I might try an attempt at a "sweet spot" map later on tonight, that will just show where I think the best chance of accumulating snow will be and explain my reasoning why.
