It sucks. www.americanwx.com or www.southernwx.com are two good forums. Lots of mets and insightful posters on both. Amwx is subdivided into regional forums and Southernwx focuses generally from TX to TN to VA and south.

Our transplanted forum of wxdisco.com will be great. When word gets out that everyone is heading there we will be fine. Ironic to see your first post point people to other forums instead of wanting them to join us where we are going.

You know that this period was always slow unless the hurricane season was nuts and we know how that's going.

There's always 33&rain...

I really like the discussion on AmericanWX so I'm happy to at least have that. That being sad, this was my intro into my passion for weather and I'll most definitely miss it! Hope to see some of you on AWX!

More than likely, those who post in here and have caught on, moved over to wxdisco. Due to the moderating staff being some of the most respected members here I believe it will be much better than what AmericanWX offers.

There is a reason why only a handful of members here post on AmericanWX or, dare I say it, 33&rain. Our community here has been strong and doesn't treat others like those forums do.

Hey gang,

Come on over to the 'Chit Chat' thread since Accuweather is closing shop on the forum to continue the great work y'all have done over the years!

Securing all domain/subdomains and server name

My usual A+ in security

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=wxforums.com
[attachment=357203:sslwx.PNG]
Disk Structure (4 Disks custom partitioned)

app - Application on NVMe/SSD drive 450GB (isolated)
Database and root file system on NVMe/SSD drive 450GB with full FTP backups every 6 hours and on demand replication. (isolated)

Store1 - Media storage 2TB SATA disk
store2 - Media storage 2TB SATA disk

https://store1.wxforums.com >> Storage1
https://store2.wxforums.com >> Storage2
https://media.wxforums.com >> Application Media
https://thundersnow.wxforums.com >> Secret
You guys don't need to worry about those URLS above they will be auto loaded for media uploads and backed applications and are forbidden direct access by public. Have settled on a 20MB upload size for now if we need to go bigger its just a couple tweaks away.

There is an added bonus we can have our own custom email server for members @ the domain we settle on. 100% spam free and encrypted email, best that you can get. But thats for another day as it is a very comprehensive and time consuming install.

The server is 100% SSL encrypted including backend and hostname, there are no insecure paths to/on server.

Full customized fire wall with zero access to anyone but my IP via shell or FTP. cool.gif

Site preloaded in modern browsers for trust and speed

This baby will be lightning fast and able to handle the biggest Winter storm post marathons easily, doing some special customizations I only use for my own sites.

Awesome sauce! I will add it to the organicforecasting blog once it's up and running!

Weatherweenies dot com

This is no joke. Edit this post into a poll and let the users choose.

I'd love a nice shiny new forum on the hardware and pipe you have available. Ipb sounds great. But I'm not very fond of any of the board names proposed. I do understand the difficulties of registering popular domain names

even wxnerds dot com would be better suited.

We would want something small without underscores or smushed together words

An easy place to find and remember for new users

Super appreciate lending your resources for this effort. Thank you

Only USCG can edit the topic to include a poll.

I'd be interested in more people submit suggestions also. That being said, due to it being the summer, this forum already has low traffic so don't see much as to participation.

My email is jdrenken7 AT gmail.com and if anyone has input feel free to contact me there!

Gotta do some more digging on ENSO and climo for myself. Getting a good handle on MJO activity and its correlation as of late. Going to settle in one of these nights and sit down at my computer and just make a whole bunch of stuff. Looking to set up a site that goes into each category more in detail. I remember asking you about this but there seems to be no reason for doing so here now. Hopefully can get it done before the site shuts down. I wanna make it a go to for basics and a little more in depth going to talk to a coworker who may be able to help. He currently is setting up a site for past TS and hurricanes/typhoons in I believe all basins.

That site is going to be huge! Sooo many impacts associated with different flavors of ENSO! One of my projects I to provide my daily SOI composites on a subscription basis.

Nobody here, but be weary about people who tweet how ENSO determination is outdated or can't figure out what statistical significance is when looking at MJO charts.

I have dozens of servers on 3 continents, am a registered ICAAN domain registrar and a 20 year linux/unix system admin with over 40 mods on record for IPS community software. I can easily set up a new domain, forum, and get a few of you to mod/admin it all in about one hours time. Just say the word and its done.

I wonder if you, Duff, USCG, & I can get a conference call going?

I can't imagine Accuweather not simply starting up another forum on the new servers or whatever. It's not hard to create them and since they are one of the bigger networks I don't see why they wouldn't. It's like free advertising. People come to post and talk, then share on other sites and social media. More come to Accuweather and perhaps signing up to pay for services.

Anyway... what a waste of breath and time after all these yrs. If anyone is looking for old images or maps that I had posted for previous storms just PM me. Or find me on Twitter to ask.

The sharing of data and knowledge is never a waste of breath and time.

Wonder what would happen if I went there and posted east Asia rule, typhoon rule, Bering sea rule and rrwt stuff and didn't simply digest model data and spew it out

My gut says it wouldn't be received well. I registered there and saw a few posts that made me cringe... I never looked back

And by cringe I mean an admin literally poking fun at organics

I like my weather discussion to not be purely in the box. The best part about this site was how it treats amateur minds and how it allows them to mold their interpretation of weather and forecasting.... not being almost forced to adhere to the hive mind

By no means am I ripping your friend or whatever, I just saw discussion that did not sit well with me.

Also don't they tag "mets" like American? I don't like that either. Everyone posting should be treated equally which promotes posting from lurkers or amateurs rather than driving it away.

Words cannot express my thoughts since I was banned for sticking up for my research against the tactics used. It reminds me of Twitter when people tweet about being humble and kind then turn around and attack those who don't agree.

The other admins even threatened me with legal action after I tweeted about the unfair treatment. I told them to go ahead and take me to court because my multiple emails to them about how I was treated by their founder, John Homenuk, would show how they favored him and did nothing about it.

Funny thing about them not tagging Mets like American is they tweeted how they were getting upset about people who didn't have qualifications acting like they were meteorlogist on the forum.

I am going to move forward with designing a forum so as to make it a viable option.. Hopefully functional by the end of the week. That being said, I still would like a significant amount of input from everyone as I said... I would like it to be laid back, informative and to hold onto to a similar vibe we have here.
On a side note : JD... Are you talking about the EU laws concerning privacy and mandates for expiration times on posts?

Yes...whenever y'all login to the Accuweather forum site you should notice a new segment on top that you have to acknowledge.

I would be interested in knowing what y'all come up with. I can guarantee that Accuweather executives won't provide an archive of the forums due to the EU laws that are partly responsible for closing the forum.

I did use a gmail account. When I attempted to re-register, now I get a message that someone already has the name jdrenken. Not only that, but to accuse people of "folks with diminished visual acuity" when, in reality, it's the captcha that can't figure out what horizontal vs vertical means is a little bit insulting.

But hey...what do I know.

I was a member of WeatherMatrix, but had no special relationship with Jesse either there or here. I liked the old weatherforum.net for the weather software/hardware and website programming stuff. When weatherforum.net died suddenly, four of us worked to resurrect it as wxforum.net in 2006, and two of the original founders are still active on the site.

It's true that wxforum.net tends more to weather software/hardware and website programming stuff, but never to the exclusion of other topics interesting to weather enthusiasts, so the Accuweather forum folks are and should feel quite welcome there.

WXforum.net was founded as an independent (not sponsored by a weather software enterprise) and so is a bit different than specialty forums for Weather-Display, Cumulus, WeatherCat and Meteobridge. We do have members who are primary authors of some of that software, but main support for their producs really exists on their dedicated forums.

Yes, we've had some heated discussions regarding climate change, and some members had to be counseled about bad behavior, but in general, the forum has a lot of knowledgeable, helpful and mostly polite members, and we like it that way smile.gif

Best regards,
Ken (admin WXForum.net)
