National Geographic Channel - telecast a 2 hour show about the Oceans and what their underlying land forms are 'without water'. The size of the mountain ranges and all other underwater formations dwarf anything we have on land.

Very interesting show - catch it if you can!

Oceans without water are not Oceans...they are empty basins.... tongue.gif

People have no concept of the immensity of the Pacific Ocean Basin and the depths it goes to...etc.

Nor do they have any understanding of the Mid-Ocean mountain range that runs from the Mid-Atlantic through the Mid-Pacific - all, with the peaks thousands of feet below the sufaces EXCEPT Iceland, which is a part of the range but is above the surface.

One other thing that was pointed out - Sea Level is not level. GPS measurments have discovered there are different levels of Sea Level - depends upon the underwater topography and currents.
