QUOTE(east coast storm @ Oct 29 2011, 04:18 PM) *
Would you believe here in the south part of Nassau County Long Island, its just plain moderate
rain right now. Earlier this afternoon there was moderate snow and it turned over to
heavy sleet and now just plain rain.

With the warmer air and less precip moving in, Long Island is pretty much going to see rain for the next few hours, with some additional snow towards the end. The worst of the snow from the point and on will stay to the west of NYC, shifting further east as the deformation band moves east.

QUOTE(snowman233 @ Oct 29 2011, 04:20 PM) *
Wow looks like a really nasty situation!

These pictures are just about what I was able to take. It was far worse than that in some other places, but I couldn't risk stopping in the middle of the traffic to take too much pictures.

West end. I've been saying ever since I moved here that there are too many branches ready to drop on power lines if no one clears them. I hope I am not proven right today.

I go to school at the University of Hartford but I'm at my moms condo in South Windsor and the lights are flickering here.

I rarely ever post, but I read the forums daily, and man does this suck.

I'm from southwestern Long Island by JFK Airport, and I've been waiting for a good storm for years, and finally when I'm away at college, we get a good storm. Not just any storm though, an October snowstorm. Upton just updated the totals to 5-11 inches for my town.

I'm up at Buffalo now, so we should be the ones getting snow, but not one flake yet this year.

Keep on posting pictures you guys, I can only admire from afar and wish I was there. tongue.gif

Probably going to lose power soon... but if I did at least I can watch the snow accumulate outside. laugh.gif

Snow coming down furious, but not too much wind yet. Looks like 3" right now and the worst is yet to come, so I hear...

will the snow line ever reach western nassau, we had .7 of an inch earlier which is now a slushy mess, and plain rains been fallin for about an hr.
guess thats what an east wind off of 60 degree water will do.

QUOTE(Kitagrl @ Oct 29 2011, 04:16 PM) *
I don't think I remember a storm being this dramatic for everybody in PA except IMBY. haha. Got off here earlier thinking maybe I'd get some snow but nope, still raining and sleeting periodically outside, no snow today except a few 15 minute periods.

I'm just shocked that everyone else has gotten dumped on...hahaha.....wow....the picture just a few posts above of nearly a foot of snow...incredible!!!!!!!!!!! SO wishing I could be a part of this historical storm!

Oh well. I guess I still have a wedding cake that needs delivered here in an hour...I should be glad!

You're not alone. I'm about 25 miles west of Philly, and all that's on the ground now is a half inch or so, some of which is sleet. Earlier it looked like a lot of the tree branches were ready to snap (about 90% of the deciduous trees are still at least partially leafed), but either the wind has blown most of the snow/sleet off them or the 35˚F has been just enough to allow a lot of it to melt and drop off, because they look fine now. Judging by the radar maps, we still have a good 2-3 hours of precipitation still to come though.

The most ironic part of this storm is October 2011 will likely go down as a warm to very warm month on paper in a fair number of the places being affected the most. A lot of places in New England and upstate New York are currently averaging more than 4˚F above normal for the month (not factoring in the last 3 days of the month, which will obviously bring that departure down a bit).

out here in W sfflk been rain pretty much all day. Upton seems to have gone very bullish for the rest of this eve, but with temps where they are and storm starting to make its move I am highly doubtful we see the snow they forecasting. IMO

LOL it got quiet in here! Nobody left but those of us who got mostly rain today! hahaha.

Started snow/sleet back again here...unfortunately have to go out in it to make a cake delivery. Hopefully the roads won't be too bad but we're headed north so that may not be good.

Good luck to you guys still waiting on your storm! I'm hoping we finally pick up a few inches tonight...but no historic stuff here. Maybe later in the game my place will get something good! Lots of precip today, though, no doubt.....
