"Moderator's Picks" are weather-related photos which are tagged by Moderators of our Photo Gallery. You can see them on the right hand side of this Forum, on various pages on AccuWeather.com, AccuWeather.com Premium & AccuWeather.com Professional. Also from them are chosen a handful of photos for showcasing on our Facebook Page, and in our Weather Snapshot segments which air on the Local AccuWeather Channel on weekends, where over 50 markets nationwide will see your photos on TV!.

RULES FOR MODERATOR'S PICKS:

1. Photos/videos must be taken from the last 30 days

2. Photos/videos must be properly tagged and include a Date, City/State/Country.

3. Photos must be at least 500 pixels wide (videos excluded)

4. Photos/videos must be of weather or weather-related topics. Weather-Related topics include things which are obviously weather (clouds, hail, rainbows, etc.) but also dew/frost, fall color, spring flowers, waves, halos, and evidence of cold & hot weather. Other subjects are also accepted if the photo illustrates weather (see "Get Creative" below). As of 2009, Astronomy photos are not eligible for Moderators Picks unless they also illustrate weather (stars and clouds, moon and halo, etc.)

5. Photos do not have to be the best looking picture - illustrating the weather is the most important aspect and if there is a "fair" photo of a tornado against no competition, we'll pick it.

6. Photos do not have to be unaltered, straight from the camera, but if the picture's subject (not the photo's properties) are altered significantly, it may not be picked. This is up to the discretion of the Moderator. Please note that many amateur alterations (such as resizing, rapidly increasing Saturation or brightness, etc.) typically make the photo look worse.

7. The same user may have one video and one photo of the same subject picked, and may have more than one Pick per day IF the subject is different (sunset vs. snow for example). Otherwise the limit is one per day.

8. Since there is no limit to the number of Moderator's Picks per day, any user, including AccuWeather employees, is eligible.

9. There is no limit to the number of Moderator's Picks per day. However, even if you meet all of the qualifications above, it is not a guarantee that you will be picked. Multiple photos on the same subject/location/date may not be picked - in those situations the "better" picture will be picked by the Moderator.

10. Moderator's Picks status can be revoked, but this is only done in rare situations where one of the above was later found to be untrue, or in rare situations where Moderators pick a photo from a photographer who later uploads a better photo.

TIPS FOR GETTING INTO THE MODERATOR'S PICKS:

(Other than adhering to the rules above) --

Get creative. If it's weather-related, it can be picked. Raindrops on a flower? Snow on a cat? These were Moderator's Picks.

Tell a story. A photo with a long description about what is shown in the photo, with weather statistics from the event, is more likely to be picked than a photo of the same event with no description.
