CMC drops the PV into the CONUS, rare... I remember that JAN 2014 event where we had -double digits F with wind chills in the -40s. Was fun making instant ice structures.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)
ISSUED AT 342 AM CST Tue Dec 19 2017

The main weather story late this weekend into early next week will not
be the snow, but instead it will be the sharply colder conditions.
High temperatures may struggle to reach the 20s by Monday...while
overnight lows dip into the single digits

If only models were as bad at this range as they are with storm formation and track. Then we could dismiss this arctic air outbreak also. dry.gif Not a fan of -5F on bare ground

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
205 PM CST Sun Dec 24 2017

.LONG TERM...(Monday night through Sunday)
ISSUED AT 205 PM CST Sun Dec 24 2017

Hope you like the snow on the ground, because it`s not likely to
be going anywhere the rest of the year. Repeated Arctic surges
will occur through the upcoming holiday weekend, with only a
slight respite around Thursday and maybe Friday. Latest ECMWF
model brings 850 mb temperatures all the way down to -23C Saturday
morning, with highs only in the single digits. Will not go that
bold yet, as it is much further south than the GFS or Canadian
models with a strong upper low moving southeast by early weekend.
However, it does point to the intensity of the Arctic air masses
heading our way. Have trended a bit downward with temperatures,
especially from Tuesday night through Wednesday as a large 1044 mb
high pressure drifts across the Midwest. Wind chills of 10-15
below zero possible early Wednesday across the northern CWA.
