Ord got 2.7 inches, mother nature hates them. Day 364 of last 3 inch snowfall... Man that is an unbelievable streak. I can't even imagine a year without a 3" snow, thats crazy Id love a 3'' snowfall over what we got...not to mention we both know the next one is aimed for you to. This one was about what I expect definitely not the .25 QPF I hoped for but probably .10 or so of glaze with a few sleet pellets mixed in. Nothing to write home about but what are you gonna do Congrats to those in the MW/Plains and western GL's on to the March 1st storm starting monday I suppose I wouldn't even bother, that is going OTS Looks like around .20 inches of glaze/sleet.... Picturesque yet quite slick.....Roads should be fine though.... Looks like you got about double what we got up here. Precip shield pretty much disintegrated right before it got here, about 0.1" of freezing rain with a bit of sleet mixed in. I agree picturesque and the roads are fine too, but my driveway is a sheet of ice. -------------------- Average Seasonal Snowfall 92.3"

Newest snow cover map, anyone know when the US was covered in 60% snow cover last. Can't remember if it was Dec. or Jan. was wondering if it lined up with the LRC but not sure how to search archived images I believe it was in the end of December before the warmup in early january that we were above 60% snowcover in the U.S. This current snowcover does not line up with the LRC. Its a little to late. Pleasantly surprised by this one, ended up with close to 5in. With 10in couple of weeks back and today's snowfall, this winter hasn't been that terrible for us in the Saginaw valley. Nice pics and that is a surprise that areas in the thumb got nearly 5 inches. If we did not have mixing issues with sleet I am certain our totals would have been in the 13-16 inch range as well. The Columbia airport reported 1.49 inches of liquid for 10.7 inches of snow making it roughly 7:1 ratios. Glad to hear the second round was a nice addition, was probably even fluffier snow than before which only made the drifting worse. We only have minor drifting here since our snow was so moist and mixed with sleet ... kind of weird to think there is an inch and a half of water locked into only 8 inches of snow pack due to settling. The St. Louis airport reported 5.7 officially, their morning accumulation graphic is shown below Thats great news for the drought as we start to head into the warmer months. You guys need everything you can get out there. -------------------- Average Seasonal Snowfall 92.3"

You guys need everything you can get out there. No doubt about it, deficits are still near double digits across much of the central great plains. What's even better is that the Monday storm system promises to bring more snow to much of the same region increasing their snowpack ... It is really a shame this system couldn't have come in December/January so we would have had a terrific snow pack through the remainder of the winter ... -------------------- All model guidance is just that, guidance. It is the responsibility of the forecaster to take that information, make it better, and to appropriately communicate the forecast to the users.

Ended up with 2 whole inches...Even my sis who lives in St Louis got more than I did (5.3), and 12 hours before the storm she wasn't supposed to get any, just a mix.
Id have to say the NAM, GFS and EURO all busted on snow totals for this storm for my area. less than 12 hours before the snow started here they all said at least 5 inches on the 06z's, heck even the 12z's showed 6 inches in a wide area all around northern IL. This makes me very leary when talking about storm totals for the Monday/Tuesday supposed storm... Yes, I'm a bit bitter. between last winter and this one....boooo rant over. |

It is true the sleet reduced the snow potential in Columbia. I went to shovel the snow and it started sleeting really hard. It would hit off my face and would even sting a little. I think we even got some accumulating sleet. Thankfully, it was snow for like 80% or so of this storm. I got right about 9 inches of snow/sleet recorded this morning after some light mix during the night. I can't complain about that. It's enough snow for me in one storm.

I really lucked out. In that DTX Snowfall Map in the post above, I was in the sweet spot. We had been forecasted for around 2" but I endedd up with 5". Nice surprise for a change.
