I haven't been active here in months, but I would like to post something to promote an upcoming event.

The student chapter of the American Meteorological Society at Millersville University (of which I am President) is hosting its second annual "Public Weather Awareness Day" (or just, MU Weather Day). The event is free and includes many interactive weather exhibits like a live green screen, make-your-own booths and more. We also are hosting several weather-relating organizations such as the NWS and, of course, AccuWeather! There's also going to be tons of free food (snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, etc.) and door prizes.

We have a website, facebook event and ad and lots of local advertising. While its very short notice (the event is this Saturday), I was wondering if I could post a topic somewhere on the forums to publicize the event? Again, it's free and open to the general public. It's made for families to come out and have some weather-related fun, which I think would be of interest to many on this board.

FYI, Millersville University is located just a few minutes outside of Lancaster, PA. It's about 1.5 hours from the Philadelphia area, 1.5 hours from Baltimore and 2 hours from state college.

Any suggestions? We would really appreciate any and all help promoting it!

Alright, this is a tough question, but I hope someone can help me out.

I'm looking for a program (ideally free) that will allow me to plot data and have it automatically create contours (aka isopleths). As a met student I've done this by hand many times, but I was wondering if there are any programs out there designed to do this. I'm guessing GIS software (like Arc GIS) can do this, but I would love to find something that could draw contours for me with as little effort as possible (meaning something easier than just drawing them myself).

I'm looking to do this for two things: one is a research proposal I would like to present, and the other is to create snow depth report contours... I want to combine eVeRyThInG!! Kidding aside, I really do... weathermatrix data, nws spotters, cocorahs, forums... everything!

Thanks for any tips or advice!

I noticed in the Current Weather forum that there is some organization with what post icons are used for certain threads. I think that's a great way to keep organized, but why not take it a step further? Why not add a few custom icons in specifically for each type (long range, med. range, short range, obs)? Something like colored dots (red for long, yellow for medium, etc.) or some other creative icon?

Do you use a DSLR? While I don't primarily do weather photography, it is an interest of mine (especially since I'm a Meteorology major). I love my new Nikon D40 DSLR. I'm interested to see if others (mainly being those that post on to Accuweather's photo gallery) use DSLRs or just plain digital cameras.
