Not much attention has been paid to this bit of light precip moving through, but I thought perhaps people may be curious about what the models have been showing in this timeframe.

Not much to be had out of it though maybe a few cms tops for the areas that do bring snow. |

Number of downloads: 0QUOTE A weak disturbance which caused snow and ice in desert areas of west Texas Thursday and Friday will spread a swath of light snow through the Great Lakes this weekend.
This will by no means be a widespread, heavy snowfall, but a few flakes will still fly from Chicago eastward to Grand Rapids, Detroit and Buffalo. The light snow is unlikely to cause any travel delays on the roads or at the airports across the region. The snow will arrive mostly as flurries Saturday night and last much of the day on Sunday. Most locations will see but a coating to perhaps an inch, but a few places just downwind of the lakes could see a little more. In these spots, where the lakes will help to enhance the snow, anywhere from 1 to 3 inches is possible. Any flakes still in the air Sunday night will quickly come to an end as a dry dome of high pressure builds in overhead. Monday will be breezy and warmer as the January Thaw sets in. |

Snow has started over many areas in southern ontario currently and moving into eastern ontario now. Radar at EC shows the system to not be too well organized and the bands of snow are definitely broken up. But this will be an ongoing event for the next 24 hours or so over many areas and periods of snow will be common.

Really intensified here, yellows on the radar, had about 2cms in the first hour. Be happy if we get more of that!

Had 6 cms overnight, now on the edge of the doughnut hole, so going round us. The snow is starting to compact and get heavy and wet. Not much hope of more i suspect until maybe late afternoon early evening with maybe a sting in the tail as the winds veer NW and temps plummet.

Snowing quite steadily here west of Ottawa. About 3 cm is down already, so 5+cms seems quite possible, although there is dry slot in central Ontario currently that could hit us soon.
I have a feeling this will be the most snow we see in awhile. The storm coming later this week looks pretty warm with rain / mixing... This post has been edited by JJ Snowlover: Jan 6 2013, 08:51 AM |
