Ah that was pretty funny thanks for the laugh. As for my favorite event of the year, it's tough to say, but it is probably the monsoon event from last September. Only got a little rain here, not even measurable, but seeing the towering buildups form basically right overhead, and then those crazy downdrafts were quite memorable. March AFB got over 2 inches of rain in an hour, and a night time thunderstorm by Hemet lit the distant sky a good 2-3 times a second. Also worth mentioning are the nocturnal storm last July that brought some good rainfall, and the more recent storm(I think it was in October) that brought a funnel cloud and some good, although distant thunder. -------------------- Local Precip Total '12-'13: 4.60" (from 10/9/12) Riverside Data for 2012-13 Record High: 107 -- 10/1/12 Record Low High: 52 -- 2/8/13 Record High Low: 79 -- 8/17/12 Record Low: 30 -- 1/12/13 Max Precip: .49" -- 12/13/12 Max Wind Gust: 36mph -- 8/30/12 Last updated 5/9/13 http://www.youtube.com/user/frostfuzz |

As for my favorite event of the year, it's tough to say, but it is probably the monsoon event from last September. I second that one. We got quite a bit thunder and lightning here during that time. Hardly any rain but the thunder was loud Here's a picture I took this morning of the south-facing slopes of the Agua Tibia mountain range in San Diego County, from Valley Center. All of that snow had completely melted by this afternoon. Beck, thanks for sharing that picture. You take some really nice pictures. I was surprised to see the amount of snow on the mountains in South Corona. The snow yesterday built up pretty quick in the afternoon during that storm cell that rolled through. Annoying cool, cloudy, dry weather to ring in the new year and it looks like we will be dry for a while. There will be very little to talk about for a while.
Most memorable events of 2012 locally would be the active monsoon season, the hot August-September weather, and the early March heat wave that set high temperature records for coastal areas for the year until they were finally broken mid August. Nationally the most memorable event of 2012 was Superstorm Sandy. |

Las Vegas, which has records dating back to 1949, just recorded their warmest calendar year in history.

I was getting gusts to 30mph a few hours ago. I hope we can rack up some decent moisture in the next month or so, need a good soaker. I can't wait to head down to Riverside to flip some rosy boas but the grass has gotta be green and there needs to be moisture under the rocks, ideally! The most memorable event of 2012 for me would also be the monsoon season. I had a thunderstorm dump 0.25 inches of rain in about 20 minutes, I believe. Never really seen that before. It was coming down super hard at one point and created a "mini" flash flood in a section of my yard. I also saw a beautiful lightning show off into the desert later that day/night. |

Today was a bit breezy, but otherwise a nice day. Looking at the models, it is not out of the question that someone sees some rain early next week. The low coming in is pretty weak though so it would have to pass directly overhead to impact the area.

Looks like a long stretch of uninteresting weather ahead - only main story would be some frost and cold temperatures around the Sacramento area right now (going back there Sunday though, and it should warm up by then). Highs in the 60s-70 in SoCal, 50s - 60 in interior NorCal.

From NWS today:
QUOTE A COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING A CHANCE OF SHOWERS...MOUNTAIN
SNOW...AND THE POTENTIAL FOR THUNDERSTORMS LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY AFTERNOON. THUNDERSTORMS MAY PRODUCE BRIEF HEAVY RAIN...SMALL HAIL...AND GUSTY WINDS. THERE IS ALSO THE POTENTIAL FOR WATERSPOUTS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS SUNDAY NIGHT. |

Bottomed out at 15F. This Dec/Jan has been 10-15F below normal for us in the high deserts.
I just wish it would rain. |

Maybe we should make a new thread for this weekend's low pressure system. Weather these days has been beautiful, but days are still too short to enjoy them. The sunset has now returned to the time it was at when we ended DST (4:55 pm on Nov 4, 2012). The sunrise is an incredible 43 minutes later, however.

Yeah I was hesitant to make one but it looks like all of the models finally agree that we will probably see something. I'll make a new thread in a bit. -------------------- Local Precip Total '12-'13: 4.60" (from 10/9/12) Riverside Data for 2012-13 Record High: 107 -- 10/1/12 Record Low High: 52 -- 2/8/13 Record High Low: 79 -- 8/17/12 Record Low: 30 -- 1/12/13 Max Precip: .49" -- 12/13/12 Max Wind Gust: 36mph -- 8/30/12 Last updated 5/9/13 http://www.youtube.com/user/frostfuzz |
