Looking at the data from southeast Michigan, it looks like 2001-2002 was slightly warmer than 2011-2012. I'm not sure about snowfall, though. I suspect 2011-2012 has also been a bit more snowy than 2001-2002. I've posted the temperature figures below.
================================================== ========= At Detroit, 2011-2012 is on pace to be the sixth warmest winter on record, with a current average temperature of 32.7. 2001-2002 is the fourth warmest winter on record, with an average temperature of 33.8. Temperature records for Detroit date to 1874. At Flint, 2011-2012 is on pace to be the fourth warmest on record, with an average temperature of 30.9. 2001-2002 was the second warmest on record, with an average temperature of 31.7. Temperature records for Flint date to 1921. And at Saginaw, 2011-2012 is currently in a tie for third place with 2001-2002. The average for both years is 30.5 (although I suspect 2011-2012 will gain at least a tenth of a degree to finish in sole third place and bump 2001-2002 to fourth). Temperature records at Saginaw date to 1900. |
