well im quite a ways from bigsky i dont think its open still but they might be i dont keep up on that stuff
total snow we got was 16 inches most of it has melted and today we got up to 55 this weekend and next week are gonna get really warm though up into the 70's the pintler mountains the ones i live next to are in a special weather adivsery saying local streams will rise near or above flood stage... not that they havent been flooding the fields for the past month oh well fire season won't be so bad this year since the lower elevations have risen above freezin for some time now and it takes a while to melt 6 feet of snow. my land still has about 3 or so more feet in the trees. -------------------- Count down to winter
10. Days start getting shorter 9. Average temps start getting colder 8. First sub-60 high 7. Bull Elk Bugle 6. Leaves change 5. First frost 4. First snow 3. Lakes freeze over 2. First significant snow 1. First sub 0 temperature 2010/2011 winter numbers. That is awesome that you still have 3 feet up in the trees! How late is this for melt-off for you? well were atleast 3 weeks late this year thers a mountain close by and its usually clear by the fourth but this year i dont think it will quite make it. so were not really that far behind.
but then again its hard to tell whats normal.this time last year the temps were up to the 90s and fires were every where. now were just below normal for temps and were behind on precipitation. -------------------- Count down to winter

well two days ago on the 3rd we had a thunderstorm that wet snow fell out of and left about an inch or so. all the snow from winter is gone and now we are breaking record highs in he 90's.
yesterday on the fourth we were in a severe thunderstorm watch..... they got that one right in 15 minutes my brother and i counted 241 + or - a few lighning strikes two small funnel clouds and we got about 3 inches of 1"- 1 1/4" hail that dented cars and broke windows.this was in the town nearby were the whole family got together. all day and night we had large storms going by that let off spectaclular lightning dispalys while the towns people let off thier fireworks. turned out to be quite a show -------------------- Count down to winter

Run into any problems with things freezing up in winter? Do you have backup (generator)? How close to power are you? I'm sure Anaconda has power, aren't they a big silver mining town? Wow that is really cool.. hardly any snow this year!!! That thundersnow that you talked about reminds of me when a upper low (small one) actually probably like a winter MCS came through and caused strong winds 30 MPH, alot of lightning, thunder, and heavy snow!!! it was crazy we got about 2 inches from it... I think it was around february when it happened it was just amazing!!!!

I wish it snowed in VA in august...T~T We don't start seeing flakes fly until December (Excluding the mountains) with the first measurable snows coming through as soon as January starts. |
