These fog advisories perfectly fit a benchmark snowstorm track and coverage area... wonder if we'd see something like this The Mid Atlantic and eastern NE have been issued a Fog Storm Warning for tonight, with focus on the 40/70 fog benchmark (credit to NorEaster07). The fog will continue tonight, heavy at times, before ending on Monday. [attachment=185383:US.png] Very heavy here in NEPA. -------------------- Conyngham Winters

NYC is now 57 degrees at 7am Mid January. Not surprisingly right around that station temps are much lower.

There's still time until the mild period fully ends... if the Friday storm remains separate from the northern stream, next weekend looks to be mild with widespread 40s/50s yet again...

I have no problem with the currect warm spell. I'd rather it stay this way until its apparent that Winter will begin. Had a big credit with the gas co from last winter so I haven't paid a gas bill in 4 months

All the record high maxes and mins lately here at KPWM (over 35 in the past 3 years alone) got me wondering when the last time was we set a new record *low* min. So I asked the NWS Gray over the weekend. Last time? May '10, when one morning we tied a record low at 29F. Tied. That's it.
In the past 3 years, over 35 new record highs and only 1 (tied) record low. Incredible. |

Just blasted right through the old record high of 53F here at KPWM, with 56F at 12:51 pm ET.
It's relentless these past several years the record highs. |

We can finally close the chapter on this warm thread. Maybe an end date of today?

The much warmer than average pattern ends today, so the end date should be today, although the pattern still doesn't turn cold for a while, especially if the torch for next weekend on the GFS/ECM verifies. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

Here in Binghamton, NY this decade, we have had 31 new record high temperatures (not including two from 2010 that were broken in 2011 or 2012) and only three record lows (one of which was on my most recent b-day).We have not had a record low in February since 1996--or one in September since 2001. We had three record lows one week in July 2009 (the week of our Adirondack vacation) but only four in the three and a half years since--amazing! -------------------- CHECK OUT MY FAVORITE 2012 QUOTES FROM FELLOW POSTERS--IN PERSONAL WEATHER DISCUSSIONS!!

QUOTE @EricFisherTWC Mount Washington, NH has tied or broken record highs for 3 straight days (40, 48, 43). 3 days in a row 40+ in January almost unheard of!

Temp Departures.
First 7 days of January on left. Next 7 days on right. A new scale had to be used. Buffalo was ppicked up nicely. -------------------- Snow Totals Per Season:

wow!...I wonder what Jan '07 had for mt washington because I remember a stretch or two during that month that had me out on my road bike in shorts climbing the local mtns. I could easily see that having been the precedence.

I could easily see that having been the precedence. That was a ridiculous torch... 70s here in January. Average highs in upper 30s. Easily shattered the old record high. Newspaper articles called it "January or June?"... flowers were blooming. This post has been edited by NYCSuburbs: Jan 15 2013, 02:58 PM -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area
