Heavy rain temp steady at 40.5°

4:15-8:15pm loop with storm reports.

Pink snowfall reports = heavy snow reports.

Mesoscale discussion outlined in blue. See below.

QUOTE
Mesoscale Discussion 0047
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0532 PM CST Sun Feb 04 2018

Areas affected...Portions of the Northeast

Concerning...Winter mixed precipitation

Valid 042332Z - 050330Z

SUMMARY...A mixture of rain, pockets of freezing rain, and snow will
continue to expand northward across the Northeast US this evening.
Higher elevations across parts of New York and northern New England
may experience snowfall rates up to 1-2 inches per hour.

DISCUSSION...Aided by upper-level ascent from a dual-jet structure
along the East Coast and warm-air advection maximized around
850-700mb, a large precipitation shield has overspread portions of
the Mid-Atlantic and New England. Surface observations and
dual-polarization data signal a transition to liquid precipitation
types from parts of eastern Pennsylvania to southern Maine, forced
by sufficient warming near/above the surface. Pockets of freezing
rain in eastern PA and southern New York have been reported over the
last several hours, with several ASOS sites showing ice accretion of
a few hundredths of an inch per hour. Here, surface analysis and
streamlines are suggestive of cold-air damming, which has maintained
temperatures just cold enough for freezing rain, and rates of a few
hundredths of an inch per hour may persist through mid evening.
However, as mid-level drying/subsidence (evident in water-vapor
imagery and radar) overspread these areas over the next several
hours, rain/freezing rain intensity will diminish.

Farther north, moderate to heavy snow will continue, especially just
north of the precipitation transition zone and at higher elevations.
While forecast soundings suggest a mix of crystal habits/densities
are possible, relatively warm (but still sub-freezing) temperatures
may yield efficient aggregation to enhance snowfall rates (upwards
of 1-2 inches per hour) this evening.

Ugh, I am nervous. So my phone said we shot up to 34 for a bit today(not sure correct). 32 currently with a mix. Another, another colder storm than modeled. Not even close. Comical how they miss the CAD, especially here, but we get it correct here on the forum. We said colder. Remember this going forward guys. Also, remember the maxing out of storms, which I have banged forever. Check the final precip amounts vs what was earlier forecast. Forum is the best!!

Heavy rain outside for past 4 hrs. So much mud and ponding in the yard.

6:30-10:30pm loop. Didn't expect to see so much yellow (35dbz+). Looks like Spring.

Well over an inch liquid here. Will measure when its done. Back edge in NYC now

I am very surprised with this last one, the only time we were above freezing was before the precip started, I went from 36deg to 31deg then at the tail end 32. We had a decent snow fall, about an inch, a period of sleet then freezing rain.

Was quite icy this morning down here in my neck of the woods, back roads and parking lots primarily.

Main roads were not that bad

Albany’s totals...looks like my neighbor recorded 6.9”...my lady friend said 6”, so will go with neighbor’s measurement. Impressed by lady friend’s measured estimate. Hard in those rain/snow slop storms.
