A fairly innocuous but decent band of flurries yesterday evening dropped a further 5cm here, nudging us past 100cm for the month, goal achieved for 2nd month running to break 100cm!

Yes, lets see what February can deliver! So far up to 229cm this winter (well be a bit more now as been snowing the past couple of hours) which is well ahead of schedule. The normals for NDJ is about 175cm, so even more amazing considering November basically delivered only a few cm's to the tally. It took us until the end of February last winter to reach that mark:

Last winter it took #YYT until the end of February to have the same amount of snow for the season (NOV - FEB) #nlwx

Through 2:30 AM today, St Johns Airport #YYT has received 229 cm of snow this winter...so far #nlwx

Also the first time we have hit 100cm in 2 consecutive months since Jan/Feb 13, we never actually managed it in 2013/14. So at this stage we are heading towards quite a notable winter!

More
St Johns #YYT has reported its first back to back 100+ cm snowfall months (119.1 cm in Dec, 100.5 cm in Jan) since Jan/Feb 2013 #nlwx

And only the 5th time in 75 years to see 100+ in DJ:

This is only the 5th time since 1942 that St Johns has recorded 100+ cm snowfalls in December and January of the same winter #nlwx

As you said the other day theoretically it looks quite good for you guys, whether it be during +PNA periods or a continued +NAO. Of course we've had mediocre patterns over-deliver and technically favourable 500mb patterns fail to produce so we'll have to see how it goes.

Impressive stats!

We're 155.6 vs 126.6cm NDJ normals with 'money in the bank' based primarily on our December totals. Our snow depth numbers have been noteworthy, along with the overall duration. Even with the steady grind recently we're still basically ahead of the game in that respect.

Have to see what we can make out of this medium range forecast and what the final numbers look like because we're still well short of our January average now in terms of snowfall - http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/on-118_metric_e.html

Last night's Euro was reasonably promising for opportunities out your way, into the last few days of the month and also possibly the beginning of February with a day 10 low on the move.

I generally find this model to be all over the place until you're in the final week of the month.
Will be interesting to see how it changes over the next 8 days leading to February.
