Warm tounge means business from NYC on east with this one. Be surprised if anyone NYC and points east see's any accumulation until you get into interior SNE

Yup and its not even a strong storm and we had arctic air in place so interesting to see. Not even wind here.

Maybe all that southwest flow for 24hrs ruined it. Too much- too long. If the front was 12hrs faster I think the coast would of gotten more snow.

I see Newark and Tetorboro NJ changed over. Lets see if i can get 1" at least. Lol

850mb temps this morning..

One of those times the 850mb level is below freezing even off the coast but its raining at the coasts..

It's raining here but snowing just 25 minutes north.

Attached Image

10m winds. I thought would be coming from the south or southeast. They're actually coming from the ENE.

The case of the surface and 925mb level just not being cold enough.. Should get a changeover soon though once the coastal storm leaves but not mounting to much accumulations like interior.

I knew was a couple of times so I had to check my maps..

A look at the Upper Heights and Radar morning of Dec 8th, Jan 3rd, Jan 12th, & Jan 17th.

4 Times this winter snow & ice was around in the South or SouthEast. blink.gif

Attached Image

From NWS Mobile..

"FUN SNOW STAT: In Mobile, there has only been *ONE* winter (Dec-Feb) with TWO measurable snow events. If @NWSMobile measures snow tonight, it would mark 2 measurable events this winter (other event: Dec 8-9) & would tie the winter of 1977 with 2 events (Jan 18 & 31)"

Past 4 hours Radar loop 2-6am.

1-2" of new snow fell near Atlanta area.
2-3" around Montgomery Alabama.
Trace of snow sleet and ice on Florida panhandle.

Incredible to continue to see this down there.

And here's the Northeast. Only raining on Long Island and NYC so far and here. NorthWest CT has 5-8" on the ground. I think been snowing for 18hrs now there.

Can't stop starring at the radar down there.

Movement of the moisture is west to East and so far south with enough cold to make it snow down near New Orleans now! blink.gif

In fact New Orelans reporting sleet.

I see 1-2" accumulated in Southern Mississippi too. Impressive!

"The Dynamic Tropopause dropping into the mid troposphere in under 100 miles there in NW PA is ridiculous and obviously will mess any global model up in the medium range.

Slower arrival of the cold front/precip, warmer coastal plain and stronger first wave can all be traced back to this feature trying to be resolved by the models. Cut the NWP some slack for this one"

5-9pm loop of 850mb temps and Radar. Positive tilt remains. Slowly but surely she's moving east. Surface is pretty much single digits under the darker pink. #Arctic.

Like watching a boiling pot. Remember when this front/snow was shown to start this morning days ago..then this afternoon... now waiting for evening and night here.. Slllooowwww

And look what starts showing up now... Atlantic moisture.. Coastal storm development beginning

Also note the heavier blue returns popping up more in the Hudson Valley NY.
Coming down harder in those areas..

Getting closer.

Amazing shot here. Less than an inch for me North shore long island, just a few miles across the sound 5 inches???

Always fun to see on radar with actual metars. I can count in 1 maybe 2 hands how many times we seen that in recent years. Always interesting to see.

Past 4 CFS runs have flipped to a colder February for Northern Tier and Northeast. There were quiet a few runs that had a warm ridge in the East..

Here's last 17 runs for February 2018 850mb Anomaly.

lol. Yeah, sorry.. Sometimes I wish every state can get in on the action and get over 6". That would be cool. Hey... Atlantic City is still way above normal with snowfall this year (1.6 feet above) but I don't think it's a widespread thing though.. Philly is 6" above norm. Willmington ,DE 4" above.

This goes hand in hand with my $0.99 Staples ruler at work i use to track lows on my monitor laugh.gif sleep.gif

That is awesome! Not sure NWS would accept but I love it! Make things happen for little cost or with what we got on hand. At least you have a snowboard. Cool.
