Thanks for making a list--i enjoyed it. I also had trouble narrowing it down for many years, notably in the 1965-72 period--any of 10 songs from each of those years could have qualified. I tend to follow music the way I follow weather.

OK, I'll put this out there, but first a few comments, and not to anger anyone else, just my personal opinion. First, any music from 1970-1984 automatically wins over other years. Second, from 1994 or so on, music took a horrible downturn. Many years it was impossible to only pick one, a few ended up with three way ties! OK, let's begin....

1955 Mr. Sandman-The Chordettes
1956 Magic Touch-The Platters
1957 Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On-Jerry Lee Lewis
1958 It's Only Make Believe-Conway Twitty
1959 Smoke Gets In Your Eyes-The Platters TIE Kansas City-Wilbert Harrison laugh.gif
1960 Cathy's Clown-Everly Brothers TIE El Paso-Marty Robbins
1961 I Fall To Pieces-Patsy Cline
1962 The Loco-Motion-Little Eva
1963 Rhythm Of The Rain-The Cascades
1964 Where Did Our Love Go-The Supremes
1965 I Can't Get No Satisfaction-The Rolling Stones
1966 California Dreaming-Mamas & The Papas
From here to 1984 is where it gets tough and where 97% of my music listening still comes from to this day.....
1967 Brown Eyed Girl-Van Morrison TIE Somebody To Love-Jefferson Airplane
1968 Born To Be Wild-Steppenwolf
1969 One-Three Dog Night TIE Sweet Caroline-Neil Diamond
1970 Spill The Wine-Eric Burton and War TIE American Woman-The Guess Who TIE
Whole Lotta Love-Led Zeppelin
1971 Put Your Hand In The Hand-Ocean TIE It's Too Late-Carole King
1972 Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)-Looking Glass TIE Go All The Way-The Raspberries
TIE Don't Say You Don't Remember-Beverly Bremers
1973 Behind Closed Doors-Charlie Rich TIE We're An American Band-Grand Funk RR
1974 Sundown-Gordon Lightfoot TIE The Joker-Steve Miller Band
1975 Feel Like Making Love-Bad Company TIE One Of These Nights-The Eagles
1976 Dream Weaver-Gary Wright TIE Dream On-Aerosmith
1977 Carry On Wayward Son-Kansas TIE So Into You-Atlanta Rhythm Section TIE
Rhiannon-Fleetwood Mac
1978 Magnet & Steel-Walter Egan TIE Imaginary Lover-Atlanta Rhythm Section TIE
Thunder Island-Jay Ferguson
1979 Lotta Love-Nicolette Larson TIE Renegade-Styx
1980 How Do I Make You-Linda Ronstadt TIE Don't Do Me Like That-Tom Petty and
The Heartbreakers TIE Sara-Fleetwood Mac
1981 Celebration-Kool & The Gang TIE Stop Dragging My Heart Around-Tom Petty and
The Heartbreakers/Stevie Nicks
1982 Only The Lonely-The Motels TIE Caught Up In You-38 Special
1983 Back On The Chain Gang-Pretenders TIE Hungry Like The Wolf-Duran Duran TIE
Missing You-John Waite
1984 The Warrior-Scandal TIE I Can Dream About You-Dan Hartman
1985 Money For Nothing-Dire Straits TIE Voices Carry-'Til Tuesday
1986 Sara-Starship (and one of the best 'story' videos ever IMO) TIE You Give Love
A Bad Name-Bon Jovi
1987 Here I Go Again-Whitesnake
1988 Sweet Child O' Mine-Guns & Roses
1989 Right Here Waiting-Richard Marx
1990 Free Fallin'-Tom Petty
1991 (Everything I Do) I Do For You-Bryan
1992 Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough-Patty Smith & Don Henley
1993 Cryin'-Aerosmith

2012 Springsteen-Eric Church
2013 Highway Don't Care-Tim McGraw/Taylor Swift
2014 Say Something-AGreat Big World/Christina Aguilera TIE God's Not Dead-
Newsboys
I was a club DJ off and on from 1979-1984, so there is a WHOLE other list of mix/dance/disco/party music that is out there too! Maybe one day I'll do that too.
A * should go after every year past 1994 as I said I really listen little to radio unless I find a 70's/80's channel. hahaha

1975 Feel Like Making Love-Bad Company TIE One Of These Nights-The Eagles

I love your list.....I agree, I place my personal "golden age of music" between 1964 and 1987. More specifically, peaking between 1975 and 1984. There's been some great music since then, but like you said, I don't believe it's up to the quality and 'richness' of the former period. You're lucky that you got to live through such a musically rich time (and cars that are NOT streamlined), I envy that.

Now I'm thinking about putting a Top 10 favorite picks just for the years between 1970 and 1984. laugh.gif

An absolutely stellar list Pard, I know a lot of effort went into it and loving music like
you do...it had to be irksome narrowing it down to even 2 or 3. But thanks for completing!
