When looking at yesterday's 06z GFS run bringing a 1060 mb high into the north central US and a giant trough covering nearly all of the United States, I thought it would be a fun idea to keep track of the craziest GFS Fantasy Land images. They can be anywhere in the United States, and can range from hurricanes, blizzards, extreme rainstorms, arctic cold blasts, ect.
Today's story on the 18z GFS is... North Pole invades the United States:

Today's 18z GFS run is definitely big enough to be posted here... it's not every day that you see a sub-970 mb storm explode over the region with over 2 feet of snow in PA/NY along with freezing temperatures and strong winds:

Can I post old GFS fantasy images? Have a lot of those. Sure, you can post any GFS fantasy image you want, as long as it's in the hour 204+ range (hour 192+ for any GFS runs before this summer). -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

I'm pretty sure that regardless of what the GFS Fantasy Land shows over the next few months, today's 18z GFS will be the winner for the most extreme eye candy

I remember the storms on the ECMWF in summer that they brang down to like 910mb They're mostly for the GFS as it tends to have the most entertaining fantasy images, but you can post other models if they're crazy enough. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area

For anyone who remembers this recent moderate snowstorm in the NE today... the CRAS originally had this as a sub-940 mb low in NY state

That kind of reminds me of the movie ''The Day after Tomorrow A major super storm covering the whole Country from coast to coast. A storm like that would not only be the storm of the century, but the most intense storm to ever affect the U.S. |
