Looks like the DGEX model is being retired today. It did run at 6z with the following surface maps:
Effective on or about March 15, 2017, beginning with the 1200
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) run, the National Centers for
Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will implement Version 4 of
North American Mesoscale (NAM) and discontinue the Downscaled
GFS by NAM Extension (DGEX) Forecast System. Changes include:
* Discontinuing all DGEX model output

Hmmm... never opened one of these before.
Here's the 6z GFS and 0z GFS snowfall and NAM precip. Will note that the 0z Euro has snow reaching the ground all the way to N NJ, S CT, with the one inch line across Dutchess and Litchfield Ctys. 3 inches in Catskills and Berkshires, most of VT. 6 inches in the ADKs. By the 29th its got a foot in Northern ME
0z GFS snow
6z GFS snow
Canadian only with 2" in the Berks and Catskills, 4 in the Adks.
Surface temps on the southern edge don't support much accum, other than grass. But still would be our first flakes.

My WMR-968 is just about done after 5 years. So I'm looking into replacements. My concern with many weather stations is that the setup keeps all the components together. What I liked about the WMR-968 was that the anemometer could mount on the roof, the thermometer on the side of my shed 75 feet away in the shade, and the rain gauge on my sunroom roof.
If I'm viewing the product correctly, the Vantage Vue is one solid unit, meaning either the anemometer will be sheltered or the thermometer will be in the sun. The Vantage Pro looks similar, but I notice there is a cord for the anemometer which perhaps could reach the roof? Ideally, I'd like the thermometer 4-6 feet off the ground, in the shade, and the anemometer where it will catch some wind. Does the radiation shield work well enough to have it located on the roof or on the north side of the house?
If they both must have the sensors kept together, then what advantage does the Pro have over Vue?
Also, there are a lot of complaints about needing a data logger. The WMR-968 didn't have a data logger, I just plugged it into an old laptop dedicated to it. Will the same work for both of the Davis stations?

I've seen a few Euro model snow maps on the forums and presented by mets on AW. They seem to be from the pro site. But from where? All I get from the pro site is the liquid equivalent or the white/blue shaded maps on the pro site. Next time I see an example in the forum, I'm asking where, unless someone here can help me.

Not really sure where to post this as its weather related, but not storm related.
A great meteorologist, author and broadcaster passed today. Dr. Mel was an inspiration to many of us amateur and professional weather followers in the State of CT. He started the met program here in Danbury at West Conn and devoted his life to the weather and education of others about how the weather worked. I was lucky to live here and enjoy his weather analysis segment on WLAD, the local station. He usually took 3 or 4 minutes a day to go into details and terminology that you only find here on this site or in the forecast discussion sections of the NWS site. For the weather enthusiasts, we hung on his every word. He became the Chief Met on WTNH (TV) in the 80's and authored 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Weather' I believe in 2002 (ish). To say he will be missed is an understatement. Best wishes to his family, friends and fans.
