Now THATS a cone of uncertainty[attachment=331136:235736_5...and_wind.

That's a cone with two scoops of uncertainty. Amazing that the storm that large can just sit in the same spot and spin because there's nothing around to come tow it away.

If Jose can hold on for a few more days he might spare some place on the Southeast or Mid Atlantic Coast the wrath of a weakened Maria.

Jose went extratropical for the 11pm disco

QUOTE
Post-Tropical Cyclone Jose Discussion Number 67
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL122017
1100 PM AST Thu Sep 21 2017

The center of Jose has lacked deep convection for at least the past
12 hours. The cyclone now has the structure of an extratropical
cyclone, with rain persisting in a shield that is displaced well
to the west and northwest of the center. Based on this, Jose has
been declared post-tropical. Surface observations from extreme
southeast New England during the past 3 hours indicate that tropical
storm conditions are persisting along the coast, and the tropical
storm warnings in those locations remain in place. The National
Hurricane Center will continue to issue advisories on Jose until the
threat of tropical storm conditions along the coast has subsided.

WFSB was reporting that Jose dumped 6" on Nantucket yesterday. I can't find anything to back that up, but the airport reported around 3" with winds over 39mph and gusts in the 50's. New Haven and Groton this morning were reporting wind gusts in the 30's as well.

Now if we can get a huge snowstorm to just sit and spin out there, eventually snowing itself out over us, that would be great.

Snow storms require temperature gradients, which implies substantial westerlies and storm movement

I'm right there with you about it being a great time, but unfortunately it's also physically impossible.

All model guidance is just that, guidance. It is the responsibility of the forecaster to take that information, make it better, and to appropriately communicate the forecast to the users.

Fervent supporter of the idea to make GFS output beyond hour 168 proprietary! Anyone wanting to post/share/tweet/etc GFS output beyond day 7 should have 1) a limited set of graphics available with the option to 2) contribute a nominal fee to get a full suite of products while improving future GFS output. #EURObusinessfor-the-win

Was a decent day here on Long island, till about 5pm. Clouds arrived with gusts in the 30's....looked like nightime. It's now calm with clear skies. We still have bands from Jose. Very strange situation here.

Its September 22. Normal daytime high of 69 here.

I just came in off the deck, having been in the hot tub, eating dessert in my wet bathing suit. North winds of 15-25mph were knocking twigs acorns and some smaller branches down (and leaves into the hot tub). Not the least bit cold. 71 degrees. North wind.

Nice first day of fall, courtesy of Jose.
