I simply have a love for winter weather. I have always been fascinated with arctic airmasses and heavy snow. Iam originally from Mill Basin Brooklyn but now reside in Neponsit Queens. I can give a very accurate general description of every winter in NYC since the mid 1980's.

As of 2011, not a single auto maker in the US offered the option of a factory cassette deck. This is bad news for many of the die hards (myself being one of them) who are attached to their cassette libraries of those mixed tapes that were so popular during the 1970's, 1980's, and even well into the 1990's. When my 1994 Pontiac Grand Am was destroyed by hurricane Sandy, I wanted to buy a new car. When I realized I wouldn't be able to get one with a cassette deck, I did the research to weigh my options. Interestingly enough, Lexus appeared to be the most aggressive with tape decks. In fact, they were the only holdout in 2010 that still offered a deck. Although I never pictured myself driving a Lexus, I was able to locate a pre owned certifies 2008 ES 350 Lexus. Only 39,000 miles on it and it had the tape deck I was searching for. It also included a CD player and even a navigation system. I bought the car in November for only $18,000. After 5 months of driving it, I must say it was a great decision. I am very satisfied. The dealership Lexus of Manhattan treats the customer like royalty. A very impressive operation.

Of course you can always get an after market tape deck installed by a radio shop but my question is does anyone out there still have a factory cassette deck in the vehicle they drive?

Ok, I've never opened a thread before so I thought this might be a good time to try doing it. As most know by now, nyc has received 55.6 inches of snow so far this winter season. The question is do you think they will break the old record of 75.6inches recorded in the 1995-96 season? Place your wagers. Vote OVER or UNDER..........

I'll start it off with a bold vote........OVER. while its certainly no guarantee, I just feel the pattern is ripe to realistically make a serious run at it, especially since virtually every storm has overachieved in this area to date!

PS......Jdrenken or any other mod........if you can modify this thread into an actual vote setup that tallies up the votes, please do so as I have no idea how to set up that format. Thanks!

Actually, I have opened 2 threads over the past 6 years but this is my first weather related thread opening!

As a reident of NYC, the old fashioned single space meters have been decommissioned and replaced with muni meters. I actually despise these meters and about 6 months ago decided I would never park at them again. The way it works is you park you car and then have to walk down the block sometimes as long as 10 car lengths to a machine. You select the amount of time you want and pay. You wait for a paper receipt to spit out (way to go green and save trees). Then you have to walk all the way back and place the receipt on your dashboard. Here are the issues I have with this:

1) When its windy, its very hard to get the paper receipt to stay on the dashboard before you can get the door closed. Not an easy task

2) The meter maids that need to fill their quotos will look to pounce on the chance to write you a ticket while you are away purchasing time. Older slower people are especially vulnerable to this practice!

3) The simple fact of having to get to a machine is exremely inconvenient and if the machine is broken or out of paper, its your responsibility to search for another machine.

4) These machines were designed for parking lots, not on the street parking.

5) If you paid for lets say 30 minutes of time and you are on a line in a store and you realize it may be a close call if you get back to the car on time, you can't add more time until the time you originally bought expires because otherwise you lose the remaining time and have to start over.

I get it that the addition of credit cards is a great option for many people but the technology exists that have single space meters that accept credit cards. Below is a video of some of those newly installed single space meters in the city of Chattanooga Tennessee. Is anyone from that area on this forum? Check out this 2 minute video:

I bet a lot of people never knew these meters even existed. I would love to hear what kind of parking meters are used by various cities of posters on this forum. Please let me know your city and the meter type! Thanks!
