METAR reporting SN in Pittsburgh ATTM (prefrontal bands commonly break out ahead of the main thrust of the precip shield)

and it's been snowing in Williamsport PA for all morning (marine layer influence not storm)

Overview to include main clipper shortwave west of the region

Remember - this thread is date inclusive for the clipper and the associated front with coastal interplay. (simple right? LOL)

We have to have a separate thread for this potential. IF it is real - to separate from 12/30 threat

We can use this as a place marker

I had to take off both shoes and socks so I could count the number of days lead time with this threat.

But, we already have the BOTM system, and the 12/7-8 system covered, so I wanted to make sure we have a place to discuss this potential which follows, quickly, on the heels of that 12/7 system.

The special aspect, between the two, just may be what is needed for an early snow chance for even the I-95 crowd. As the prior system exits to the NE (most likely up through the Lakes, first - as it looks now), its departure would allow for backing flow aloft, to usher in a shot of cooler/cold air

(6z GFS Op run - used for illustrative purpose only. The actual result may/will vary)

The exiting system also allows room for a northern stream, clipper-like, feature to follow in its wake. Normally, that would not be all that great a signal for snow lovers. But, in this instance, it could work out pretty well. Notice the southern jet energy (orphaned, in a way, from its parent long wave trough which exits with the first system). The "clipper", northern stream energy, they develop an affinity to each other.

and catch one another somewhere ~/just south of 40N latitude

The end result, of this GFS run, is not important. What is important is the notion that the wave trains will have little time gap in between. How and where they interact and influence one another, is what we're here to discuss (or supposed to, anyway).
