Just wondering what most would prefer... both winters hypothetically would add up to the same snow total but would be built up differently:
1. There's 1 or 2 huge snowstorms with 12-24+ inches, but otherwise the pattern fluctuates from warm & dry to cold & wet with hardly any snow. The snow from these blizzards melts quickly without any lasting snowpack during the winter. 2. There's no major snowstorms, but many light snowfalls (~1-4") that gradually add up throughout the season, with a lasting snow pack given the frequency of these snowfalls. -------------------- Visit my weather website for the NYC area
Past winter totals for Albany (Avg ~60"): 11-12: 23.3", 12-13: 51.4" Past winter totals for NE NJ (Avg ~30"): 06-07: 14.7", 07-08: 17.0", 08-09: 34.5", 09-10: 58.7", 10-11: 68.5", 11-12 disaster: 12.5 inches 12-13: 36.6" |

Winters that don't work my snow shovel! ill definitely take the 1 big one even if that meant no other snow the entire winter! reasons: 1. Better chance of getting off work. 2. Better chance of getting to track watch it even if having to work since its prolly a 12-24 hour event. 3. Better chance for snow pack to stick around longer. 4. Less chance of getting in an accident cause when it snows over a foot you and most people arent on the road anyway as opposed to 4 storms of 2-5" when most people still will/have to drive in it. 5. Better chance of thundersnow. 6. Jim Cantore comes to town. |
