The models have been having some agreement (the Euro and GFS) that we'll be getting cold air next weekend. The 00z GFS shows very cold air the week after this. Any chance we're getting snow next weekend or an Arctic air outbreak the week after this?

Yeah I've noticed it on the GFS a couple of days ago. TWN didn't pick it up until today... Hope some snow comes to Vancouver

It seems like the cold will persist until maybe the 19th on the GFS though... On the other hand it's 2 weeks out so anything can happen tongue.gif

It will get cold, but how cold is anyone's guess. Michael Kuss and Mark Madryga have mentioned a cool down today, but they're not thinking it will get very cold. Maybe 0C on Saturday or something away from Vancouver. Could be because they're playing it safe for now, and don't want to alarm the public. Haha

It seems like any time we have a "cold" period it always gets downplayed until it actually happens..

It seems that way. TWN returned temperatures to near normal in their extended forecast too. But we don't get cold events often anyways...

Well... the ultra cold air that was on the GFS a few days ago seem to have disappeared. No snow for us I guess. Alberta is getting a lot of snow though.

Same here. When I got up it was 1.6 degrees and raining. About 3 km's inland it was snowing but very lightly and turned to rain.

Oh well. Only November and us SW BC'ers usually get some snow in Dec-Feb.

Between cooler temperatures, natural snowfall and impressive snow making machines, some popular ski resorts in British Columbia are opening early this year.

"We basically had no snow last Thursday, so we turned on the snow making system Thursday night," says Joffrey J. Koeman with Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver. "We've re-jigged it this year, added more space for more snow guns and really focused on opening one run as fast as we can."

Koeman adds that plunging temperatures and over 30 cm of fresh snow over the weekend really "sealed the deal" for an early opening on Wednesday.

Ski operators say an early opening in November will mark a nice long season for riders.

"Historically, when you look back at our numbers it was December 1 when we opened, give or take a week on either side. So, definitely the snow making is getting us open nice and early," says Koeman.

Snow making has proved to be beneficial for other popular BC resorts including Grouse Mountain, which kicked off the winter season on Tuesday.

Whistler Mountain has also announced that they will open Saturday, November 17, five days ahead of schedule.
