...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southwestern, central and
northwestern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, central and
southern Delaware and northeastern Maryland.

* From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through this evening

* Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms can be expected
through tonight. While flash flooding is not anticipated with
the initial round this morning, locally higher rainfall amounts
of 1 to 2 inches are possible, and will help saturate the ground
for the next round of storms. Torrential downpours with storms
that develop this afternoon and evening could produce rainfall
rates greater than 2 inches per hour. While the entire area will
not receive heavy rain, isolated rainfall totals of 3 to 6
inches are possible where storms track over the same locations.

* Torrential rain falling in a short period of time will result in
rapidly rising water levels along streams and creeks and in
areas of poor drainage. Significant roadway flooding is possible
in isolated areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Basement flooding is possible due to heavy rain falling on soils
already saturated from previous storms. If your home has a history
of basement flooding, monitor your sump pump for proper operation
and if possible, direct outside water flow away from your house

Yep, looks like it could be interesting later this afternoon given all the flash flooding we've had recently.

QUOTE
Mesoscale Discussion 1521
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1254 PM CDT Fri Aug 18 2017

Areas affected...Southeast NY...Eastern
PA...NJ...DE...MD...Northeast VA

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

Valid 181754Z - 182000Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent

SUMMARY...Thunderstorm coverage is expected to increase over the
next few hours. Some strong to severe storms are anticipated, with
damaging wind gusts as the primary severe threat.

DISCUSSION...Latest surface analysis indicates a broadly confluent
frontal zone extending from the Adirondack mountains southwestward
through eastern PA and western VA. Visible satellite shows extensive
cloud cover across central and eastern NY/PA while the pre-frontal
areas of southeast PA, central MD and central/eastern VA remain
relatively cloud free. Temperatures have warmed into the low 90s in
these cloud free areas, which, in conjunction with a very moist
low-level airmass, supports MLCAPE greater around 2000-3000 J/kg.
Cooler surface temperatures exist farther north with a corresponding
drop in instability. However, better forcing for ascent is expected
farther north as the shortwave trough continues northeastward
through northern New England. Stronger mid-level flow and, as a
result, stronger bulk shear, are also anticipated across northern
portions of the discussion area (i.e. southeast NY, northeast PA,
and northern NJ).

Overall expectation is for storm coverage to gradually increase over
the next few hours as forcing for ascent associated both with the
shortwave trough and approaching cold front interact with the very
unstable airmass across much of the region. Wet microbursts capable
of damaging wind gusts are possible within the strongest updrafts
with some stronger wind gusts also possible along the leading edge
of any convective lines or bowing segments. Additionally, given the
enhanced low to mid-level flow and very moist airmass, a brief
tornado is also possible. Trends across the region will be monitored
for watch issuance.

Well that lightning strike made one thing hanging on a suction cup on the window fly off.

Also over an inch in 20 minutes.

Storms are just to my east, southeast and northeast, here in east-central PA. Been hearing thunder for the last 20 minutes or so and some light rain out ahead of the heavier stuff has just started. Nothing that's gotten a warning yet (thankfully), but after the rain we got this morning, there should be some pretty steady rivers running down the road if the heavier rain holds together and adds to what already fell. The temps have been steadily dropping as well... down about 5튔 so far in the last half hour.

This storm has a bit of everything minus hail. Heavy wind-driven rains, C-T-G lightning, with an occasional house shaking crack of thunder. Already nearing 0.75" and streets are looking like a flowing river!
