October was a month when the means were all below average for October and was the coldest since 2003. Most of the month the maximum air temperature range from the low teens to the mid teens with the exception of the 26th and 27th which were cold days resulting in an overnight minimum air temperature of 0.9c and a grass minimum of -2.3c The month was a dry one with no notable days of rainfall the highest daily total was 14.0 mm on the 11th. The monthly total was 61.8 mm which is 84% of the average The winds were slack too with a mean wind speed of 2.5 mph at 09z. The days of 22nd to the 24th saw light winds from the North with low stratus cloud giving poor visibility |

November had near normal temperatures near normal sunshine but above average rainfall with snow flurries on the morning of the 5th. The month commenced in a cold pattern and temperatures rose during the period 7th to 15th inclusive this was punctuated by cooler temperatures lasting 3 days then it became mild with temperatures dropping off as the month progressed. This is indicated by the 30th when the minimum air temperature was -02 c and the grass minimum –4.5c. The month commenced on a dry note until the 16th ten a wetter pattern developed with 34.2 mm falling on the 24th and the total rainfall for the month was 105.4 mm which is 138% of the average. |

December was a month where the temperatures were just above the means but again it was a wet month yet without any snowfall. The month had a cold start but a warm end a maximum of 12.7 c was recorded on both the 22nd and 23rd. On the morning of the 12th a grass minimum was recorded of -7.5 c. There was a significant wet spell spanning 19th to the 22nd inclusive during which I recorded 31.3 mm this fell on saturated ground without any significant flooding problems. The weather event of note occurred on the 14th when light drizzle fell onto frozen surfaces causing traffic and pedestrian chaos during the morning rush hour. The roads were not treated for these conditio0ns. So the local radio was instructing people not to travel then just after 10.30 am the temperatures lifted and rain started to fall giving a recorded total of 22.96 mm during the period |

January was a dry and cold moth with a lack of sunshine. The month commenced with the first eight days giving temperatures well above normal. 7 of those days gave a maximum of over 10.0c culminating in a maximum of 12.3 c on the 3rd. The first snow of the winter fell on the 13th and snow was laying on the ground right up to the 27th. When almost all the snow was washed away in the rain in the afternoon of the 25th but not until after the rush hours snow fall during the same morning which brought traffic chaos. During the aforementioned period ground frosts occurred on 13th consecutive days. Sunshine was in short supply with only 35.95 hours recorded which is 74% of the average locally over the last 10 years. The month for once was dry with only 67% of the normal rainfall recorded including snow melt of 13.0 mm which was recorded on the 25th. There were no real high winds recorded in this sheltered spot but on the 30th during the passing of a fierce squall small hail fell and 2 flashes of lightning were recorded in the event which lasted from 14.00 hours to 14.30 hours. Locally power outages took place affecting stores and even ATMs |

March 2013 was indeed a cold month with well below average temperatures, below average rainfall and sunshine but a month with snow making what should be a Spring month the coldest month of the Winter. The month started with the promise of Spring, when maximum temperatures of 10.3 c were recorded on both the 3rd and the 4th but the nights were cold as the 2nd and 3rd produced minimum temperatures of 0c. The 5th and 6th saw foggy mornings and a wet period from 6th to the 10th. During the month we the persistent blocking North Easter which was responsible for feeding the cold conditions we experienced. Statistic wise for the month: 22 days of Ground Frost were recorded 12 days of Air Frost Snow Fell on 12 days 50% Snow Cover Occurred on 10 Days. We had two cold spells within the month the first was from the 8th to the 14th when the 11th was an extremely cold day with the maximum 0.6 c and the minimum -4.0 c on the 12th we had the first snow showers of the month. The second cold period began on the 20th through to the end of the month on the 19th we had Snow Flurries and on the 20th Snow Showers without any lying snow. On the early morning of the 22nd @ 04z snow began falling and continued right through into the following day @ 19z when a depth of 21 cms was recorded. Then right through to the 31st on each day snow fell in the form of either showers or flurries and snow was on the ground at the commencement of April. Snow Melt contributed 8 mm of precipitation on the 31st apart from that there was no significantly wet days and there were no high winds during the month. Sunshine was in short supply as only 57.80 hours were recorded which is 56% of the average within the month there were 10 Sunless days with 9.39 hours of sunshine recorded on the 2nd. |

April was cool month with a distinct lack of rainfall and sunshine over the average The month started on cold note continuing from the end of March Snow Flurries were observed on the first 4 days of the month but there was no settling of these small amounts. On the 27th Small Hail and Sleet was observed in this cold day. Rainfall was very small during this month with only 41% of the local average recorded. The most rain in a day was on the 20th when 6.3 mm fell. The month produced several windy spells. I recorded gale force winds on both the 13th and the 19th. |

It was cold during the day again until the 25th when day time temperatures recovered Rainfall was spot on the average of 69.9 mm were it not for the total of 20 mm recorded on the 14th the month would have been dry. |
