STATION NOTES.

December was a month where the temperatures were just above the means but again it was a wet month yet without any snowfall. The month had a cold start but a warm end a maximum of 12.7 c was recorded on both the 22nd and 23rd. On the morning of the 12th a grass minimum was recorded of -7.5 c. There was a significant wet spell spanning 19th to the 22nd inclusive during which I recorded 31.3 mm this fell on saturated ground without any significant flooding problems.

The weather event of note occurred on the 14th when light drizzle fell onto frozen surfaces causing traffic and pedestrian chaos during the morning rush hour. The roads were not treated for these conditio0ns. So the local radio was instructing people not to travel then just after 10.30 am the temperatures lifted and rain started to fall giving a recorded total of 22.96 mm during the period

STATION NOTES.

January was a dry and cold moth with a lack of sunshine.

The month commenced with the first eight days giving temperatures well above normal. 7 of those days gave a maximum of over 10.0c culminating in a maximum of 12.3 c on the 3rd. The first snow of the winter fell on the 13th and snow was laying on the ground right up to the 27th. When almost all the snow was washed away in the rain in the afternoon of the 25th but not until after the rush hours snow fall during the same morning which brought traffic chaos. During the aforementioned period ground frosts occurred on 13th consecutive days.

Sunshine was in short supply with only 35.95 hours recorded which is 74% of the average locally over the last 10 years. The month for once was dry with only 67% of the normal rainfall recorded including snow melt of 13.0 mm which was recorded on the 25th.

There were no real high winds recorded in this sheltered spot but on the 30th during the passing of a fierce squall small hail fell and 2 flashes of lightning were recorded in the event which lasted from 14.00 hours to 14.30 hours. Locally power outages took place affecting stores and even ATMs
