This was a photo that I took just before we had a damaging wind storm this summer...
![]() I've sent this to the NWS to see if they can figure out if it's a wall cloud or not, and they said they cannot. What does everyone else think it is? I am not positive it's a wall cloud, could just be a scud, but it looks a whole lot like a wall cloud. Thoughts anyone? |

If you look around the main scud cloud it's obvious the clouds are moving all in one direction. No rotation around the scud cloud at all. -------------------- NW Ohio's First Poster

That's just an outflow dominated storm, no chance of it being a wall cloud.
See how it's rather textured and raggedy and out in front of the rain and sort of pushing away? When you are looking for a wall cloud, it has to be underneath the updraft...usually at the updraft/downdraft interface. Something along the lines of what's in my sig below. Also keep in mind that wall clouds don't always mean a tornado is imminent, as most storms, at some point, have some sort of a wall cloud. It's when the wall cloud is persistent and rotating, that's when things are getting busy This post has been edited by ChrisSnr: Aug 19 2009, 01:54 AM -------------------- ![]() |
